Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good! -
Arrow at month, 2 numbers @ arrow year.
Could be wrong but most are saying this.
April 2019

What if the original 10/30 had a rivet that went threw the date of the magazine and converted it to a standard magazine during freedom week?Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Isn't the date code too far up on the mag where if it was riveted at that location, it wouldn't be a 10/30?

I don’t buy it. Distinguishing marking seems to indicate something specific to that item. Every magazine in a lot will have the same stamp. There’s nothing to distinguish one mag from another within the same lot. The expanded law also seems to cover specific classes of products. I doubt a plastic magazine, hard hat, or porta potty are covered (all things I’ve seen these stamps on). Here's the law that prohibits removing them. Quoted from Penal Code section 537e:
"Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes of, conceals, or has in his or her possession any personal property from which the manufacturer’s serial number, identification number, electronic serial number, or any other distinguishing number or identification mark has been removed, defaced, covered, altered, or destroyed, is guilty of a public offense, punishable as follows..."
Please note that the date code is a "Distinguishing Marking" that identifies the date of manufacture.
(b) For purposes of this subdivision, “personal property” includes, but is not limited to, the following:
(1) Any television, radio, recorder, phonograph, telephone, piano, or any other musical instrument or sound equipment.
(2) Any washing machine, sewing machine, vacuum cleaner, or other household appliance or furnishings.
(3) Any typewriter, adding machine, dictaphone, or any other office equipment or furnishings.
(4) Any computer, printed circuit, integrated chip or panel, or other part of a computer.
(5) Any tool or similar device, including any technical or scientific equipment.
(6) Any bicycle, exercise equipment, or any other entertainment or recreational equipment.
(7) Any electrical or mechanical equipment, contrivance, material, or piece of apparatus or equipment.
(8) Any clock, watch, watch case, or watch movement.
(9) Any vehicle or vessel, or any component part thereof.Last edited by MrTokarev; 04-04-2022, 10:29 PM.NRA-ILA Lawmaker Contact Tool

You don't gotta "Buy It."
The statute says what it says.
There no requirement that the "Distinguishing Mark" distinguish the item from other similar items. It need only distinguish the item in some manner. In this case it distinguishes the item by its date of manufacture.
As to the list of exemplar items, you failed to note the language "included, but not limited to." In order to win the argument, you would have to show that a magazine is not an item of "Personal Property."If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.Comment

It sounds like even if you disassemble your 30rd magazine to clean it, once you assemble it back you're now considered manufacturing? So you can't even do that?Comment

It is CA legal to take it to a gunsmith for repair and then have it returned to you. [PC 32425]
The CA legislative intent was to have all repair and maintenance on large capacity magazines be done through a gunsmith.
Penal Code 32425
Section 32310 does not apply to any of the following:
(a) The lending or giving of any large-capacity magazine to a person licensed pursuant to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive, or to a gunsmith, for the purposes of maintenance, repair, or modification of that large-capacity magazine.
(b) The possession of any large-capacity magazine by a person specified in subdivision (a) for the purposes specified in subdivision (a).
(c) The return to its owner of any large-capacity magazine by a person specified in subdivision (a).
Penal Code 16630
As used in this part, “gunsmith” means any person who is licensed as a dealer pursuant to Chapter 44 (commencing with Section 921) of Title 18 of the United States Code and the regulations issued pursuant thereto, who is engaged primarily in the business of repairing firearms, or making or fitting special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms, or the agent or employee of that person.Last edited by Quiet; 04-05-2022, 7:57 AM.sigpic
