Okay, so I bought a shotgun from out of state and it was a great deal. The guy I bought it from takes it to Fed Ex and they tell him it will cost $540.53 to ship it! What's up with that??? Any suggestions on what to do now?

Well, I kind of guessed at the dimensions and weight of 20# (which I know is way too much) and UPS quoted $31.00 ground and $130.00 next day air. The post office comes to $35.00 for 3 day and $86.00 for express mail and Fed Ex said $36.00 for ground. No, I bought it shipping included. I think Fed Ex is just being screwy or something? Maybe the person at the counter doesn't know what they're doing and are treating it like a handgun or dangerous material, I dunno... Way wrong. This can go UPS or Fed Ex ground or USPS. Your estimates sound right. Even if he is mistakenly specifying next day air, it sounds wrong.

Tell him you will send him the shipping label. Go to UPS or Fedex online and pay for the shipping and insurance and email the label to him. All he has to do is print, slap it on the box and take to the shipping counter.The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
