    Just a rant....

I am so pissed right now. Ok, let me give you a little history on my mother in law. She is anti-gun, cried when Obama won the election, and has no idea about self protection and thinks the police will save her if anything goes wrong.
She lives with us since she lost her home during the interest rate hikes and it got foreclosed.

Me, served 8 years in the Army, very pro-gun, exercise my rights as an American, and believe that WE are our first line of defense and not the police.

So I guess the other day my MIL (mother in-law) was taking to my wife's aunt about that 20/20 piece of crap segment that aired on the TV a few months ago. Talking about how having a gun still wont protect you and your better off without it. Anyways, she goes and tells my wife's aunt that "Jason keeps a gun in his nightstand". They have a 5 year old girl, that sometimes comes over to play with other nieces and nephews that are at our house during dinners, family get togethers etc... So i get a phone call this morning from the aunt, my wife hands me the phone and says who it is and she wants to talk to you. I say, "about what???" My wife responds, about your guns and if they are locked up.

So i talk to her and her concern is that if i have any guns that are out and not locked up. I respond "no, all my guns are locked in that big safe in the dining room". Which all my guns are except for a Mossy 500 12ga that is in my closet for home defense. Every kid that comes over knows not to go into our bedroom, period. Its not a place for them to play, snoop around, or be in there at all. So i tell the aunt everything is locked up for her piece of mind. I understand where she is coming from, but they have no right to know what or where my guns are, that's my business, and if they don't like it, then they dont have to drop their rug rats off at my house.

What pisses me off is my anti-gun MIL spreading crap about my guns. Why are my firearms a topic of discussion when i am not around? I cant wait to buy a house and get the hell out of here, she can stay for all i care, but she aint coming with us.

Anti-gun or not its every mother-in-law's inherit right to be a pain in the butt. If it wasn't about your guns it'd be something else. Welcome to married bliss.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

Get one of those wall-mounted locking racks for the closet shotgun or a handgun lockbox for the night stand. If the aunt tells her daughter "don't go into tango's room because MIL says he keeps a gun in there" she just might go looking for it out of curiosity. When I was a a little kid we'd go snoop in my grandpa's closet to look at his shotguns. We knew we'd be in deep **** if we got caught, but we did anyway. Fortunately we knew enough to not play with them, but we were raised around guns. It sounds like your extended family wasn't.

Humm, I think I would have a little talk with the MIL, remind her whose home and rules she lives under, and if she has a problem with them, she should find another place to live.

Furthermore, any further gossip concerning your home life, which ends up conversation to other family members, she should just pack her bags, and save everyone the drama, of having to ask her to leave.

Edit to add: You have to have boundaries, and others need to know what they are, if they cross them, they are telling you they don't care about you, or your feelings. These people will only cause problems in your life.

No, they are not familiar with guns at all. I asked my MIL if she wanted to go shooting, i'll take her to the range and get her familiar with guns so she can get over the fear of them. She had no intentions of taking me up on the offer. She said she shot a .22 years ago, and that was scary for her. I grew up around guns, my dad was M60 gunner when he was in the Infantry in his Army days in the early 70's, hunted his whole life, and was something that was done from his father and grandfather in means to put food on the table.

Empty your gun safe and place your MIL inside and throw the keys.

But then i have to sit and listen to her scream until she runs out of air. Or i can just dump the safe into the river, but then i would have to get a new safe. lol.

I will ask a couple of my buddies to "break" into my house while MIL is all alone and put the fear with a capital F in her. In and out in 2 minutes, enough time to really shake her up but not enough time for the cops to do anything. Then ask her later, would she have felt safer when you have been there, with your shotgun, standing by her side?

                            Just a thought...

FWIT - having unlocked firearms where children can get access to them is not only stupid it's illegal. Kids don't always "do what they're told". you can't rely on the old "Itold them not to go in there" excuse if someone gets hurt. The shotgun should have some form of quick release lock on it, or get a handgun in a fast acting safe for HD.

MIL notwithstanding, you need to be more careful with your firearms.
