    Buying a Handgun - Sales Tax+

    Quick question:

If you buy a handgun from an online FFL store like guns.com, impactguns.com, etc, you are paying sales tax of it (usually %10 of the cost of the gun), and then when the gun is shipped to your FFL store near you, you then pay transfer fees (Approx $50-$100) as well as DROS (Approx $37)?

So in total, online FFL store fees are: Sales Tax + Transfer Fee + DROS

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, for certain items, youd have to pay extra for making it ca-compliant before shipping.

Like AKs from Atlantic, but other than that, pretty much what you stated.

Some FFLs charge extra for blind deliveries (sending to FFL before notifying FFL beforehand.)

That is generally correct. But also consider shipping insurance and FSC fee (if you don't already have one). And there is a sizeable restocking fee if for some reason you can't pass background check.

Or you mess up and order a handgun that's not on the roster.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Get involved, let's fix these 2nd Amendment misunderstandings.

It's not the size of your gun that counts, only the fun factor...

Depends on your FFL. Gunlocker in Hesperia charges tax on top of automatically getting taxed by Gunbroker. No bueno

I would suggest ask your receiving FFL, give them the model and sku# (if any) from them online sites to see if your receiving FFL are GTG with it.

Handgun needs to be on-Roster or exempt from it.

Fees will be from the online store (cost of firearm + sales tax + shipping fee) + CA FFL dealer (transfer fee + DROS fee).

Because this is not a PPT, the CA FFL dealer can legally charge any amount of money to facilitate the transfer (I've been quoted from various SoCal FFL dealers from $50 to $250 + DROS fee, average is around $75 + DROS).

So, as part of the process of finding a CA FFL dealer, you need find out how much they will charge to facilitate the transfer.

If the place you ordered the gun from did not charge you tax then the ffl will!
