    Ammo prices?

I haven't bought ammo in a few years because I stocked up during the Bush/Obama years.

In the mid-2000's, I was buying Winchester white-box 9mm 100 round value pack for about $10 at Walmart.

Then it steadily increased to about $25 a box a few years ago.

The other day I was in Big 5 buying something and noticed that they were well stocked in ammo. So, I meandered over to take a look at what they had and how much.

I nearly fell over when I saw that they were selling Winchester white-box 9mm 100 round value pack for about $56!!!!!!

    WTF!!!!!!

I was in Big-5 earlier this week. Winchester White Box, 100 round box was $56.00. Norma Tac-22, .22 LR 40 gr. was 20 cents/round. They had Aguila 22LR, but I can't stand that stuff, so I bought 200 rounds of the Norma--much better quality, though more expensive.

Big-5 had a pretty selection and decent quantities.

Given the supply chain issues and overall inflation, I don't expect ammo to drop in price; in fact, it will likely cost more down the road.

Big 5 wasn't my go to place for ammo BEFORE 2020, I gauge prices from LGS, Sportsmans and Walmart before they stopped selling.

Ammo pricing will depend on who the dumb @ss voters select.

Supply chain problem is not just ocean shipments sitting off the west coast harbors. It is taking 2 weeks to get a truck shipment from San Diego to Portland or Boise that used to take 2 days. FedEx "overnight" air shipments are not happening. Shippers tell us they don't have enough drivers.

Shopping for ammo to wrong place... Search on the web. Some vendors have free shipping for bulk order. Ship it to your FFL for ammo transfer
You can find steel cased 9mm for about 30cents/round and brass cases 9mm for about 35cents/round.

Hell, I'm reloading 22LR now because the prices for the good stuff is insane.

You'd be surprised, I tried to source probably a harder caliber than average, 38 super and I had to pay 70 per box of 50. It's truly ridiculous, I asked why so expensive and they told me that it's supply and demand, manufacturers are pumping out the more common calibers and so 38 super being an obscure caliber gets left behind and super pricey.

                            I would do that, but here's why I don't:

One LGS nearby will not do ammo transfers because he does not have the storage space. I know this for a fact: he's not BSing.

The other LGS in town charges too much for a transfer. I actually save money (at this point) by buying from Big-5.

The LGS prices are higher than Big-5.

'Tis what it 'tis, I suppose.

Hate to say it, but I'm heading to check out those Big 5 prices ! lol
I live close to LAX Ammo OC (the one in Huntington Beach), but their prices last time I was in there seemed higher than other places nearby. They had a decent selection of self defense ammo, which was cool, but it came at a premium of course. Their standard target ammo seemed pricey, which is kind of disappointing since basically all they sell is ammo.
