    Winning gun rights with words

By Alan Korwin Part One -- The Concept Certain words hurt you when you talk about your rights and liberties. People who would deny your rights have done a good job of manipulating the language so far. Without even realizing it, you're probably using terms that actually help the people who want to disarm you. To preserve, protect and defend your rights in the critical debate on

    THEY WANT YOU TO SAY
(AND YOU LOSE IF YOU SAY):
    IT'S BETTER TO SAY
(AND THEY LOSE IF YOU SAY):
    pro gun > pro rights
    gun control > crime control
    anti-gun movement > anti-self-defense movement
    semiautomatic handgun > sidearm
concealed carry carry or right to carry
assault or lethal weapon. > household firearms
Saturday night specials > racist gun laws
junk guns > the affordability issue
high capacity magazines > full capacity magazines
Second Amendment > Bill of Rights
the powerful gun lobby > civil rights organizations
common sense legislation > dangerous utopian ideas
reasonable gun controls > victim disarmament
gun control laws > infringement laws
    anti-gun> anti-gun bigot
    anti-gun> anti-gun prejudice
    anti-gun> anti-rights

      then they say: You say:
      Guns kill> Guns save lives
Guns cause crime> Guns stop crime
Guns are bad >Guns are why America is still free
Assault weapons are bad> Assault is a type of behavior
Guns are so dangerous> Guns are supposed to be dangerous
Guns are too dangerous to own> You should take a safety class
People shouldn't have guns > Maybe you shouldn't have one
Guns should be totally outlawed > Let's try that with drugs first
The purpose of a gun is to kill > The purpose of a gun is to protect
People don't need guns > Only good people need guns
Guns should go away >Then you should personally sign up to never have a gun in your life, as you would ask of me
They should take away all the guns> Bad guys first
They should take away all the guns because they're so dangerous Who exactly is "they" you would give all these dangerous guns to?
Gun owners should be registered Bad guys first
Gun owners should be registered to help stop crime So, how would writing my name on a government list help stop crime?
We need more gun laws> Criminal activity is already banned
Why would anyone want to own a gun? You're kidding, right? You mean you really don't know? Well, why do you think we give guns to the police?
I'm not against people having guns What sort of guns do you think people should have, and why
Do you really have a gun? Of course, don't you?

        I use car laws...

Ex. Why high capacity magazines? Well why are cars in CA made to go above 70mph the max posted speed limit.

        So on and so on.

We need to start doing the same.

Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

Defense is a losing proposition when time is on the side of the opponent. In the history of humanity, no defense has ever won against an enemy with time on their side.

                  You are 100% correct!
This halloween I asked for ages, as I gave out loose change instead of candy, that I forget to buy.
When someone answered 15-16-17, I asked if they learned The Bill of Rights. One offered thou shall not steal, the others answered no. Those interested I handed a wallet sized card and offered, #4 regarding consenting to a search.
One 17 year old male got triggered and stole my pumpkin candle as he left .

I suspect if I offered $100 to any cal gunner who could outline these unalienable rights 1 -through 10 at the end of they day I would still have the bill in my wallet, unless I stopped for 91 octane .

Fact is we like these rights, swear to protect them and are too lazy to learn what they are.

Knowing the Bill of Rights should be required to vote IMO.

So you're that crotchety old man at the corner.

That candle sucked balls. Buy better candles.

No Im the friendly guy having good natured fun with young people while trying to get them interested in American Freedom .

If he was so triggered by the question," What do you say, if a cop requests to search your car "?
He should have stayed instead of skulking away and stealing my crummy pumpkin candle.
Guess his government school is using the Bill of Rights as a some sort of subversive document ?

BTW you were correct , that 3 inch pumpkin candle, sat outside hidden by leaves of a large potted plant for years. It was so old I had burn the top to find the wick!

Cars are a terrible analogy to use for so many reasons. There is no amendment protecting cars. Cars are HIGHLY regulated and pretty soon will be even more so (electric vehicles etc). If you use the car example that you did above, you're setting yourself for failure. It is a false equivalency.

Actually it isn't. Guns are highly regulated and you're missing the metaphor , but to each their own. Here in CA it doesn't matter it's a loss cause. I have had several hard conversations with Senators and congressman here, we are doomed. We can win all we want on the federal level but lose on the state level...

A "loss" cause? You butchered the idiom along with your horrible arguments for guns. Cars: Need a license to drive. Highly regulated. No constitutional amendment protecting them. Soon they'll ban an entire class of them (ICE) Etc. Etc. I didn't miss anything. You're just over estimating the effectiveness of your "argument"...and butchering an idiom. You're a "loss" cause.
