Messed Up CZ Finish

I picked up a new SP-01 so I was going to possibly put my 1994 75b up for sale. I got a little carried away with some cleaning products and took some of the finish off the slide. The whole slide is slightly duller with a patch that has most of the finish removed.






What are my options here? I think it might be their matte blue finish?

1. Sell as is? What sort of price would be reasonable with the finish issue?
2. Refinish it? If so, options? Cost?

Yikes. What product was that, and how did you get such a straight edge at the forward end of the damage?

The barrel had a few small spots of surface rust on it so I had a glass on Evapo-Rust I dipped it in. Without thinking it through, I dunked part of the slide in.

I am really surprised evaporust took the finish off like that. I am curious to see what the responses will be. If I wanted to buy that gun and it had the finish rubbed off like that, I wouldn't care very much because I think guns are tools like a vise or hammer. I would want a small discount.

Also what is that tray of food in the first picture now I am hungry

I didn't expect it to take off that much as well. The tray is a biome project for my 5th grader...mostly rocks and dirt

Bluing is a form of oxidation. So it makes sense it removed it.

Call cz and see how much they will charge you to re-coat the whole pistol again

Was it blues or polycoated? My first CZ of similar 1990s vintage is polycoated. Anyhow, I would just keep it and get it cerakoted..which will be more durable than CZ's polycoat.

I like my cz's but have never cared for the polycoat finish.

I would love to send one out for stripping and nitrocarburizing. Looks like you have the stripping part figured out.

It's probably the cost of a new gun to get it done, but would be an awesome end result.

Don't feel bad OP, brand new nickle plated Colt SAA and I took some plating off the cylinder first day shooting/cleaning...poop happens and the gun still shoots.

You could try rebluing it yourself, can't do more harm, or send it out for cerakoting. Personally, I would make it my new truck and camp gun if I was you, that is what I did with my Colt, its now my favorite shooter and camp gun, i figure I can't hurt it anymore. Besides I look super cool with a .45 on my hip when camping
