Just get a Gen 3 and ammo. Not worth getting a Gen 5.

Even in a free state, unless it's an MOS, the Gen 3s are still popular. My local store still gets them, and still sells a lot of them.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Gen 3 all day when you factor in off roster premium

Gen 3 is fine. Id rather use the extra on grip mod, trigger and ammo for practice.

The only off roster I'd be willing to pay the premium on would be a p320 or variant.

Well, I went to my LGS and held the Gen 3 G17. Maybe it’s just shiny-new-toy syndrome (I didn’t buy it, still thinking about it) but it felt really comfortable. I actually think it’s more comfortable than my G19. Is that possible? Is the Glock hump lower on the G17?

Grip is longer, so the hump may fit differently for you.

You would still pay less if you bought a 3 and customized it to a 5

a Gen 3 G17 RTF2 would be a nice addition , because it's got the RTF2 grip texture and the curved fish gill serrations, plus it's on the CA ROSTER if you can find one.

I’d say the gen 5 is only worth it to lefties and people with small hands. The gen 3 is kinda a brick of a grip. Lefties like it because you can reverse the mag release.

Take the $$$ and put it towards training

Gen 4 and 5 are to sell new stuff to cops- in my opinion

90% use the backstrap that comes with the gun- same as Gen 1-3
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Only Glock I’d ever even consider paying the CA premium on is the Glock 40.

That's the gen 5 drawing point for me.

Its just money. Now figure out if you have better use of the premium elsewhere.
