Glock Gen 5 - Worth the CA Premium?
sigpicTags: None -
I don't think it's worth it... my 2 cents .
Not super impressed with the Gen 5's get a gen 3 and custom it to what you want, like you stated

Not worth it in my opinion.
I have two Gen3 Glock 17’s that I put Glock minus connectors into along with Vickers extended mag releases and sights of my choosing. Would rather have two Gen3’s for the price of one Gen5 in California.
The whole grip thing is overrated. I’ve taken classes in Denvember when it was in the 30s-40s and in September when it was full sun and over 100F and hands slippery from sunscreen and never had any problems shooting my Gen3 accurately and could grip the firearm just fine.Last edited by Vinnie Boombatz; 10-24-2021, 10:03 AM.sigpicComment

Is there a win in upgrading the trigger if you’re not interested in a lighter trigger pull? I sold a P226 Extreme because I couldn’t get used to that SRT.sigpicComment

But if you’ve shot a PPQ or a VP 9 you’ll appreciate the Timney Trigger.

You can always remove the finger grooves.
The slide finish is better on the Gen 3 than Gen 5.
I prefer the Gen 4 as I like the finger grooves and not as high of a premium as the Gen 5.
If you do get a Gen 5, get one without the moon cut.Comment

Some points to consider since I have both Gen 3s and a Gen 5 -
- Unless you are getting a MOS, personally, I would just get a couple of Gen 3s. That said,
- I personally like the grip of the Gen 5 without the finger grooves (as I have heard, like the Gen 2s). If your hand doesn't 'perfectly' fit - it sometimes can make for an unstable grip in quick draws (at least in my experience). But then again, you can have the grooves of a Gen 3 removed as well.
- I hate the more complicated internals of the Gen 5. *ugh* And those ambi-controls are a bit frustrating for me because of my high-grip.
- And I hate that cut in front of the grip! *ugh* It messes up the index for my speed reloads.
- Match grade barrel? What are you trying to hit? Even the Gen 3 barrels are more than sufficient for anything less than bullseye.
- Aftermarket trigger? Nah! Not worth it (learn from others' costly $$$ experience). You will not notice the 5.0~5.5# weight when shooting at speed (static indoor slow fire is different thing altogether - but that is personally boring). If you do prefer the lighter pull - just Flitz it and/or get one of Glock's OEM connectors (Dot and Minus, each with a different feel). Then again - what are your use case?

How can $700 premium be worth it?
Maybe if someone has no money concerns.
Glock 17 Gen5 USA 9mm, 4.49" Barrel, Fixed Sights, Black, 17rd. Glock UA175S203. The frame design of the GLOCK 17 Gen5 FS removed the finger grooves for more versatility but still allows to easily customize its grip by using the different back straps. A flared mag-well and a cutout at the front o...Comment

nope, I would stick with GEN 3 or GEN 4
I dont like the GEN 5 Marksman barrel or the finish , dont like the ambi slide release / stop either
the finish on the barrel wears and shows a Glock face after only firing a couple boxes of ammo, thats definitely a cost cutting lower quality change
the original Glock polygonal barrels are better quality , the Marksman barrel was not needed.Comment

Not worth it. And I love Glock. Off roster is the same as dealership mark-up. Just a waste.sigpic
