Move the money, not the safe.

Look what used safes are selling for, vs. new safes.

Now look how limited availability is on used safes, to find what you're looking for, you might be waiting a long time.

If you're putting it in a truck and doing the loading/driving yourself, as long as you have room, it shouldn't be an issue. Make sure you have people at the destination to assist unloading...

If you're having a moving company do the work, take the safe with you. It doesn't take much room, adds little when compared to the weight of your household full of stuff, and you now have safe and secure gun storage at your new home without waiting.

Now if you need a bigger safe (and who among us doesn't), sell the existing one and buy a new one when you arrive at your destination.

A 650lb safe is going to have at least a 100lb door and probably more than that.
Removing the door will get it to a manageable weight that you can move it with a refrigerator dolly by yourself.
A refrigerator dolly has a strap that will strap the safe to the dolly so you can balance it once you get it tilted so the weight is over the wheels.
You will need a couple helpers to get it tilted and to slide into your truck bed or trailer that you drive across country with and then a refrigerator dolly and friends on the other end to stand it back up and set it back down in the final resting place.

It really depends on the cost of the safe. Safes also are getting more expensive so the old it’s cheaper to buy another isnt always true. If you’re diy moving it’s not that expensive to move it yourself. Even if yiu have to buy a dolly that does the up the stairs function.

When I move…my safe is coming with me. I may buy another safe but I’m not leaving my safe

And if you're paying movers, a safe isn't that much of a problem in the grand scheme unless it's some giant monstrosity of a safe.

I'm starting to plan my escape from CA and been pondering items to move. I have several "smaller" safes. I think I may sell them and buy a new one when I get to my next location.
For shorter moves, I have always pulled the front door.

This is what I did, reduced almost half of the total weight.
