I like my Hang Fast Targets. The t-post hangars are really easy to use and set up. And the way they hang has a nice angle down to them, unlike some chain hangars which just are straight up and down. That makes it safer, shooting anything at the appropriate range, as the splatter angles into to the dirt. Mine all make a very audible ring, even at 100 yds. I think they are (used to be?) a vendor and had a discount for calguns members but I didn't search for it.

XSteel's 1/2" AR500 Shooting targets are designed for the heaviest uses such as gun ranges and law enforcement. But our cutting-edge metal shooting targets today!
Sign up for their emails. Every holiday they have some kind of 25-50% off that counts towards their clearance as well.

I've often wonder about these targets. The target doesn't walk down the post when its hit?I like my Hang Fast Targets. The t-post hangars are really easy to use and set up. I like the way its angled down like you stated..It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

It will, but you can get a clamp they sell, to put under the hanger so it doesn't. A woodworking metal c-clamp would also probably do the job if you have some. Maybe even just tying a rag around it would stop it. Some of the targets hang on a very short chain (like 3 links) to allow more movement and a very nice ping, and those ones won't walk.Comment

It will be used for public ranges. Set up time is probably less than 2min max, during ceasefire. It'll need to be reasonable carry weight since I'll need to also be carrying my guns an ammo to the range from the parking lot.Comment

We just get them from work. Just simple pipe blinds. They work great. Usually we get them for 8-in pipingsigpic

For durability, 1/2" thick AR500 or 3/8" thick AR550.
The thicker the better, the harder the better. It is added insurance against deforming the surface of the steel target.
Steel targets are only safe to shoot at when the impact surface is smooth and flat, and the face is angled downward, so that the bullet splatter and ricochets are deflected downward into the ground.
When steel targets get impacted by bullets at high velocity, even if they don't punch a hole in the target, they will make dimples/craters/pockmarks on the steel surface. When another bullet impacts these surface defects, there is an increased chance of bullet matter getting deflected back towards the shooter.
You need to allow for enough distance between the shooter and the target to A) let the rifle bullets slow down enough to not damage the steel target and B) reduce the chances of getting hit by bullet splatter. Those flying spinning flattened pieces of lead and copper are like mini ninja stars and can draw blood when they hit exposed skin.
Because of its steel penetrator, M855 isn't gentle to steel targets of any grade, and is a potential fire hazard when it hits hardened steel or rocks in the backstop. Most public ranges in CA don't allow "magnetic" ammo for this reason.

Yeah, okay. Exactly. Buy your targets from a reputable seller and your "AR500' won't get hole punched by 556.
To the OP, MGM Targets or Salute Targets. They offer good quality steel and mounting options. If you just want decent plates and a more rudimentary mounting option, ShootingTargets7 is an inexpensive option. Wait for Black Friday. Ignore the chuckleheads; 3/8" is enough for 223/308 (still don't shoot too close with any thickness of target due to the velocity which generates heat which can divot the target). 1/2" only if shooting large magnums. Even then, if placed at far enough distance, 3/8" is fine. I have 1/4" AR400 Targets at 1100-1750 yards and 6.5 doesn't hurt 'em at all...just a nice ring. 375CT is still too much for them at 1500 yards...need 3/8" at that range with that caliber.Last edited by ohsmily; 10-13-2021, 10:11 PM.Expert firearms attorney: https://www.rwslaw.com/team/adam-j-richards/
