This thread would be better IMHO, if off roster, & ban Ca rifles were the topic.

I mean, if you could only have 4 guns, price would seem mute.

You would give up a shotgun for a 2nd handgun?

              No way 4 would work.

You need at least a 22LR , 9mm, 45ACP & 357 Mag handguns, with suitable backup for each.

For rifles you need a 22LR, AR (556) as bare minimum. A 12 gauge pump or auto shotgun. Suitable backups, and companion carbines in 357 & 9mm for the handguns. A good more powerful hunting/long range bolt is also needed.

So it would be fair to say 4 categories is more suitable.

For SHTF and get out of dodge, 9mm (Gock 17/19) & AR (556). Guess the military figured it out already with logistics in terms of rounds/lb with OK effectiveness.

Too many calibers. You need to also feed all those guns when the ammo runs out you've only got a club.

Concealable handgun with some knock down power. 2 rifles one for under 100 yards and another to reach out and get some food to take out command/control. Finally a shotgun for last ditch up close and personal.
Pick calibers you may be able to liberate from invading forces to keep your Wolverines supplied.

4 guns in what context? Survival, take over a country, drug running, killing spree, etc….?

12ga pump, 870 or 590 (long, short and slug bbls if possible) 22 rifle( your choice but tube fed need no mags). Full sized pistol in 9mm or 45(Sig P220 or P226 for me) reason : common ammo M1A reason, common caliber, hi cap and great range, penetration and knockdown power.

I think a better question is if you could only keep 4 you already have. More realistic. For me:
                                Ruger 10-22
                                Mossberg 590A1
                                Sig P227
