If I don’t have time to clean any gun after firing it (like bird hunting trips) and as long as non corrosive primers were used, I just:
1). Wipe down the exterior of the gun with a rag and any gun oil at the end of the day and;
2). Spray some break free (or gun oil) down the barrel, maybe with one single patch or a bore snake) and then store it for cleaning or shooting again the next day. I’ve been doing it this way for 35 years without any detrimental issues to the firearms.
Eventually, I’ll get around to cleaning them and I’ve gone months and months with some guns that way.
However self defense carry guns, ALWAYS get a thorough cleaning after shooting them where if not the same day, then definitely the day after. But hunting or target shooting guns… meh, no rush to clean “immediately.”
One exception: Hunting over salt water for waterfowl and the gun gets a good cleaning inside and out at the end of each DAILY hunting session, before the gun goes back in its case and back into the truck for the drive back to camp/motel. For example, my Salton Sea waterfowl treks can wreck havoc on blued guns in a hurry if not cleaned inside and out.
