DIFFERENT CG Marketplace question

As someone relatively new to CG, I wanted to know what off roster availability in the marketplace was like before the pandemic. Were they just as available as they are now, or were they more? Or less?

Basically, my question is about supply--was it greater than the past year, less than the past year, or about the same?

IMO they have been less available by a small to medium amount.
Caused by the panic buying and emptying of gun stores.

Thanks, this is great to know! I have several firearms I'm interested in owning, but am more than willing to wait to get. My only concern was that the availability was actually better right now, as sellers were drawn out due to the higher prices for even on roster guns.

The guns stores are getting in more and more inventory as I type this. This will bring in the off roster guns for the flippers to well, flip.

It may also bring in the people dumping on roster guns as that was all they could get last year while they really wanted XXX gun.

This next year is going to be fun to watch the market place.

It comes and goes. But this probably doesn't help, gun store owner uses police ID to sell off roster guns.

I'd imagine prices are high but inventory is as it was before. I know my carry was bought years ago for $200 over retail and the DE50 I got a few months ago for $1200 with 60rds of ammo.

I agree. They are changing hands less frequently, and there will be fewer new ones added to the pool. I would not wait, I don't think they will be getting cheaper from here.

During the last year, prices went higher than usual. But also, lots of very rare stuff was posted because of the unusually high prices.

That was my suspicion, too. I would rather have more choice, even at the cost of high prices, given the limitations we have here in California.

I'm mostly interested in the modern firearms you've listed. And yes, often they are simply off roster (more modern) versions of what is available in CA, such as a p226 Legion (maybe optic ready, even if it's the Romeo 1).

I don't have the same interest in revolvers yet, which seems very fortunate; I'm sure I will love them the moment I pay more attention.

I purchased an off-roster from a LEO after those letters came out, but still 2 months ago. The crazy prices on CG probably got a lot of them selling, and so the letter. But there are still the intrafamilial transfers that occur, I think, and they seem to be a significant portion of off-roster availability, too.

Expand your distant tolerance. I saw a g43 for 800 recently, although not a deal by any means but due to the current times, its decent enough compare to all the other g43 askings.

I saw off roster availability increase at some shops at some points as shady cops got in the business of flipping off rosters with their exemptions and saw the opportunity to line their pockets.

Some were willing to risk it even with the letters and some departments warning them to stop. Being around gun shops a lot I usually see 2-3 especially bad offenders at them.

I guess it just depends on what you are looking for. I've been looking for an HK45 and they are few and far between. Currently, there are 2 available and 1 of those is in Nor Cal. The only reason I haven't purchased the other one is timing.

I am simply trying to gauge the market to see if I should have more patience. While I can get what I want now, I don't mind waiting. I have many new toys already this year. I just don't want to lose the opportunity because supply reduces in the next year or two.

Yeah, this is exactly what my concern is. The HK 45 is amazing! I really want it's little brother, a P30L. I want to collect 1-2 semiautomatic pistols of each iconic brand, from HK to Sig, Glock and Walther, SW and CZ, etc. Many of the models I want are off roster.

It’ll be interesting as less cops are allowed to sell their off rosters, and those who are allowed now realize they’re limited to 5 a year. I think intrafamilial transfers are magnitudes less than LEO exemptions. Ask your FFL.
