Chinese AK Mags

I have these pre-ban mags. I havent actually seen them in decades. Pulled them out of storage just to look at them.

Just thought to share and maybe get some opinion if theyre anything special.

I have mostly Croatian, Hungarian, a couple of Russian and my 10 rounders are all Korean cheap chit. The two are Chinese and pre-ban.

It’s been a while since I was immersed in AK mags, but the Chinese mags are sought after by purists to match their Norinco or Polytechs, especially that 40 rounder. I used to be able to tell just by looking at the finish and rib pattern, but I believe the shiny color and the two horizontal ribs at the bottom is typical of Chinese mags.

I’ve got a half dozen of them from way back when I had my Mack 90 AK. I still use them today in my Eastern European and US built AK’s, they still and always have worked great.

On a similar not when I was packing up for my move I discovered two of the old early 90’s 30 round detachable SKS mags. I remember getting them when I bought my Russian SKS way back when, decided I didn’t want to use them and packed them away. Only to find them 25 plus years later, still don’t want to use them. My kids will probably find them packed away when I pass.

Ah, the good old days. I bought 5 Chinese and 5 Russian 30 rounders for $5 each out of Shotgun News years ago. Good, solid magazines.

PRC AK mags are great mags. The best I've used and none of them stamped "made in china".

Slick smooth finish inside and out. VERY tough/reliable.

Those are "cold dead hands" worthy. OP should load'em and keep'em.

I have a pre MAK 90 from the 80s..
Norinco 56S-1.. Beautiful underfolder a la CLAYCO.
Plenty of these excellent CHICOM military mags.
Purchased Great Western, Turners off Reservoir Chino, and Crossroads Angel Stadium.

I love my Chinese flat back mags. None of mine have the made in China stamp on the floorplate though, very interesting.

Keepers some of the best mags. I’m almost certain these dudes were producing to soviet spec in the AK department.

I have half a dozen of these that I bought in the 90's for my Hungarian AK. All flat backs with no markings. The finish is different from any other AK mag I have come across since.

Add me to the list of those that like the Chinese magazines. The most valuable are the chrome follower mags that came with Polytech AK's but all are nice solid units that work well and are desired by those in the know.

I tend to buy any Chinese flatback that I come across if the price is right and recently picked up three that were still new in their sealed plastic bags. Like the one the OP pictured, they were marked "Made in China" on the base plate.

The ones that came with my Spiker have the chrome followers and are marked "Poly China" on the base. Those that came with my preban AK47S-1 are marked "China" and yet another batch has a base is unmarked. I believe the unmarked ones came out of the former Yugoslavia and are colloquially known in AK circles as "Chugo" mags.

Back in the day polytech came with 3 magazines, marked exactly like in post 12, Poly China, and they do have the chrome followers.
