Is anyone else a bit burnt out on firearms?

I am not getting rid of anything I own but I have not been shooting much lately and I have only bought one gun in the last two years. I have not bought any ammo since the whole background check thing. The only time I have gone to the range since COVID started was to requalify for my CCW. Part of it is I do not feel like paying the insane prices, I do not feel like dealing with the people I have been seeing at gun stores and ranges lately, and there is a part of me that just does not feel like dealing with the California red tape. I am feeling a little disillusioned I guess. I still carry on a daily basis, keep a variety of weapons ready at home for various tasks, and grab them to deal with predators and such.

I am not throwing in the towel but I am just a bit discouraged right now. Does anyone else feel similar? Is anyone else feeling a bit burnt out right now?

    This is the way.

Our path is not easy. Getting you burned out is what they want.

I kinda am. But that’s because I went so hard for years buying my collection and stocking up on ammo. Plus between having a classic truck and jet boat addiction my interest gets curved a lot. But I’m the same way, I’m not selling anything I own and couldn’t tell you the last time I went shooting. I’m glad I have what I have and long term it’ll be a Lifelong interest and ultimately everything passed to my sons

only during the summer times, cause going to outdoor range will literally mean burning myself in the heat.

i usually chill out on being outdoors once June hits and won't really go back out until Oct.

I haven't been in a while, haven't bought ammo since the same time as you. Then again when I last bought it was enough that I'm still not seeing bottoms of any ammo cans. That said, this last year was because we had a baby and did a full gut on our house.

I agree with the seasonal bit. I welcome the summer months because I shoot less and my bank account reflects it. Its cyclical based on weather patterns for me. Currently 115 degrees at my go to spot.

I understand where you are coming from. Regarding handguns, the roster really discourages purchasing very many past a certain point. Yes, there are some good guns available, but not really that many and certainly nothing truly modern. The "AW" ban pretty much kills rifles as well. Sure, a featureless AR or a Mini-14 is fine, but they are not even close to optimal. That being written, I guess it's a matter of perspective. I see many posts on here referring to the use of firearms as a hobby. An individual may have a lifelong hobby, or the interest may be fleeting. It is my opinion that firearms are necessary tools for people who understand that their safety is their own responsibility, so I consider firearm ownership and proficiency as a duty, or way of life. To be less encumbered by California's draconian laws would certainly result in many more purchases and more effective options, but I do feel the need to remain steadfast in the discipline of self-defense nonetheless.

I am one year from being free of California. Until then I have all the guns and ammo I need. I don't think that makes me burned out, just fully prepared.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Stop being a a little female dog. With shooting , repairing, building, and reloading there is plenty to do. Stop being lazy.
Create a law that says gun control only applies to criminals.

Nope, because I have one of everything I am always able to learn, train or better myself with something. Whether it's a tighter group, longer distance, different positions, run and gun, draw and reloading, clay, black powder, developing a faster reloading process, making up targets (exploding, moving)...

Not me. Im really enjoying going back to basics. Go shoot outdoors. Take a kid and go through a brick of .22's plinking tin cans and what not (clean up after!).

Make a nice picnic lunch, have a few sammichs and enjoy the great outdoors. Shooting can be a great part of just getting out. Be well and have fun!

If I were still in CA, I would also be deterred by the paperwork and wait for guns and ppt. And now ammo ???

                          Unbearable.

My local indoor range just closed down so I will be going less.

The roster does not help since I am frustrated at what I cannot buy new or pay extra for privately.

Maybe 2 or 3 years from a decent chance at escape.
Buying some new non-CA items would keep me going for a few years more.

Only thing I've NOT done in a few years is buy another firearm. I am content with what I have and make it a point to go to the range a few times a month and deplete my reloaded ammo.
