Sending Gun Back for Warranty Work

I have to send my Ruger lcrx 22 lr back to Ruger for some warranty work. It has a failure to fire every 50 or so rounds, sometimes more, sometimes less. I contacted Ruger, and they sent me instructions and a shipping label (FedEx). I've never had to send a gun back for repairs, and I'm kind of nervous about it. I need to go to a fedex office, and send it out, but I have to inform them it's a firearm. To me that's just screaming "Here, take my gun and steal it." Am I being too paranoid?

It’s straight forward. Just pack it per Ruger’s instructions. Make sure it’s packaged well. Include the RMA on the shipping label and a note inside the case

Drop it off at fedex. Make sure they scan it in before you leave. Go to a hub not a drop off area or drop box

The instructions Ruger gave me said I had to tell the shipper it's a firearm. No tinfoil, just trying to follow instructions.

And ask for a printed receipt. If they don't give you one, NP don't argue with them. Just go online at the end of the day and run your shipping #., Make sure its in their possession / system and print that info out for your records.

            Good Luck.

And make sure you tell them it is a UNLOADED firearm.

What does the strick on the rim of the shell case look like? Post a picture.

Yes sending back is straight forward.

You must go to a FedEx hub, NOT to a FedEx store. It's a PITA, but I've done it once and had no issues.

                          Over the years I've had to send one of each of the following brands of firearms back to the manfacturer;
Browning bolt action rifle, safety recall. The gun might go off just by opening the bolt.
Smith & Wesson model 19, cylinder locked up the first time out.
Ruger bolt action rifle, right out of the box, there was a burr in the chamber gouging the crap out of the casings.

3 well known manufactureres. I guess I'm just unlucky. All were fixed and never gave me another issue. I still have the S&W and Ruger.

Just got some warranty work done on Ruger GP 100 Match Champion. Kudos to Ruger. it went smooth as silk and the turn around was fast. No problem shipping gun in a plain box with RMA ... as instructed. They did not tell me to tell the shipper the box contents & I don't see the point if it's unloaded. I would if they did, but that part would have made me a little less comfortable.

I've done it a few times also. No issues except one time:

Me: "I need to send this handgun to Smith and Wesson for warranty work."

Lady behind counter: (gasp), steps back a few steps. "Is it loaded?"

Me: "Of course not! Can you go get someone who knows how to handle this?"

Lady: Disappears into the back room.

Guy comes out and we take care of business without a hitch. I suggest that he have a little talk with the Lady. He agrees and apologizes for her behavior.
