Hello Fellow Calgunners,
I need some advice regarding older firearms.
Long story short, my sister-in-laws uncle passed unfortunately and had a few firearms. His wife knew that I was a bit of a firearm collector and wants to sell me his firearms (all are long firearms, hunting style rifles and one shotgun, no handguns at all). Their ages are between 1930 to 1970 and were purchased by them between 1960 to 1975.
I wanted to ask what would be the best way to transfer these to me or how to check they are clean (just for record purposes) since paperwork can't be found for them. I did ask about the older firearms and it seems they were just bought way before I was even born back when firearm laws were less intrusive for long guns.
They are not in my possession, we are both in California.
I don't know if intra-familar transfer is out of the question and doesn't apply to an extended family by marriage, or if a DOJ Voluntary Registration Form would work.
Anyways I would like to go about it the right way without getting either of us in trouble.
Thanks in advance.
