Agreed with everyone, novelty purposes only. I've had a handful of them over the years. They're fun to have and collect, but are easily outclassed as shooters and self defense weapons.

        I’d rather have a S&W 351C

depends on which one you try. i have had many as a interest. davis, american, buffalo arms, uberti etc.

quality, size and grip style matter.

my american with the custom grip is actually the most comfortable handgun of all in my 40+ years of owning them.

I have an original Remington .41rf. It has the two line imprint on the top of the barrel. I also have a lifetime supply, 4 boxes of cartridges.

My Dad had an American Derringer Alaskan in .45 Long Colt/.410 shotshell. His intent was to use it as a "snake" gun, but the sights were rudimentary at best, so Long Colt was out and the .410 patterned about 2 feet wide at 10 feet, so shot density made it useless for its intended use. The trigger pull was extremely heavy. One of the heaviest triggers I have ever experienced. The recoil was brutal. I mean really brutal. If I remember correctly, the manual warned about the possibility of stress fractures in the wrist after extended (6 rounds sticks in my head) strings of fire. The barrels alternated fire with no way select which fires first. The torque of the Long Colt is fairly scary since you only have two fingers on the grip and the gun really tries to get away from you. Not an enjoyable gun to shoot in any way, but as a "get off me" gun...

Just my opinion and it is worth whatever value you care to attach to it,

I have a Remington model 95 (manufactured in 1911) chambered in .41 short.

I have it more as a collector's piece than anything else...I've never shot it, but if I found some ammo for it, I probably would try it out.

I got one years ago on a trade. Never shot it. It was a pita to hold. I traded it for a big table saw.

I cannot understand why a derringer does not group ? it has a rifled barrel and seems well made.

I have an original one as well.

I have no ammo; any interest in parting with a box?

recoil shy owners should try the new reduced recoil, low muzzle blast snubbie loads now offered.

Big fan of Derringer. Bond Arms is Technically one but they are huge and from what I Understand is CA Models have been discontinued. That is why I picked up a NAA.
