    Selling Ammo

I'm moving (within CA). I have a lot of ammo I need to sell because I can't take it with me. What am I supposed to do here? I can only sell 500 rounds/month and it has to go through an FFL, which includes all sorts of fees, background checks, and I have to physically drive to an FFL and make an appointment? WTF. What's my other option? Destroy/turn over my ammo to police and lose thousands of dollars?

If you're moving within California....why can't you take it with you? You movers may not be able to transport it but you should be able to take it with you in your personal vehicle. If you're driving something small and can't transport it....consider renting something larger. Take it with you and trickle it out at 500 rounds or less per month.

Why can't you take it with you? You're moving in-state so just load it all into your car or truck. A typical car has a 1000 lb load capacity, 1000 rds of 5.56 is about 27 lbs, 1000 rds of .308 weighs about 52 lbs, and 1000 rds of 9mm weighs 26 lbs. You can math out your specific combination (remember to include yourself in the total weight) but I suggest you put every effort in taking it with you, even if it takes multiple trips.

Has to be transferred through a CA licensed ammunition vendor or CA FFL dealer.
You can deliver the ammo in person or ship it to the CA licensed ammunition vendor or CA FFL dealer that is doing the transfer.

You can transport it to another state and sell it, in accordance with Federal and that State laws. There are no limits to the amount of ammo, you can sell while in another State.

You can surrender it to a CA LE agency or CA Fire department for destruction.

If the OP is in CA, then the limits to the amount of ammo they can legally sell still apply, even though the transfer is to someone in another State.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

With ammo prices being what they are, and availability being what it is currently, figure out a way to take it with you. The cost and time moving your cache will be much lower than the cost to replace it.

Once you move, go ahead and sell some, if you need to.

Isn't it only the buyer that has to have a background check and pay the fees?

Yeah it's a dumb *** law for sure , especially if you're trying to sell .22lr

But to be limited to only 500 rounds of ANY caliber a month is criminal imho. I bought it , I paid taxes on it and the store made a profit which they will pay taxes on. F Kalifornia and the scum politicians that run it.
