I don't get these threads. If it's something I want I PM the person and go from their. Has always worked out for me selling and buying.

I get if the post actually says first "I'll take it gets it" but if it's not their then PM.

Buyer made an offer in good faith but never made solid arrangements so negative was not warranted.

If you are offering something for sale, it's up to you to explicitly list the terms of the sale.

If you're unwilling to ship, that's fine, but you should say so up front otherwise it's assumed you'd be willing, provided the buyer pays the shipping charge.

If you post "I'll buy it" that means you're clear on the terms of the deal already or willing to conform to any the buyer levies. Once you say "IBI" the deal is done, no negotiating after that. You committed. Any attempt to negotiate terms after that is adding conditions to your committment, a no-no. You commit, you live up to it.

Maybe I'm a little anal about my for sale postings but I always stipulate the ship/no-ship (I'm very accommodating and will always ship on the buyer's dime if it is legal to do so). I stipulate the buyer will pay the actual shipping, and I am willing to provide the shipping recipt if desired to show the actual price. On one occasion it was significantly inconvenient for me to ship one particular sale item, on that occasion I stated "will ship for actual shipping cost plust $xx for my time" - it was up front, no surprise to the buyer, and they knew that was the term of sale before committing to buy. There were no misunderstandings and no complaints on that sale, so it must have worked out.

In this instance I think Kes made the right call... both seller and buyer neglected to touch all the bases here, and confusion and anger resulted due to misunderstanding. Take-away lesson - a bit of thoroughness and great communication up front, prevents misunderstandings and hard feelings on the back end.

In my humble opinion, all details of the sale except for actual names, phone numbers and addresses should be negotiated in the public thrread, not the pm's, so that all potential buyers have access to the same information for transparency. I try to do this will all my sales (a good many over the years here) and have never had one yet where either myself or the buyer went away unhappy because of it. Lesson to learn there, perhaps.

The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.

Quoting for truth. A little common sense and consideration go a long way in preventing misunderstandings.
