Lexan behind stucco/drywall for bulletproofing?

Gleam.. you sound like you wear a mask in your car as well.
The statistics are not even .001% of injury/death from bullets coming through walls. Wtf is wrong with you? Shooting in the air??? Duh... you know that is not a wall above your head right? Do you understand terminal velocity?
Your odds are way better in lowering your sugar and salt intake and exercise.

Lexan is just a fancy brand of polycarbonate aka plastic. I'm oversimplifying a bit, but think about the context. I tried using thin lexan to protect red dot sights when I used to play airsoft years ago, and the airsoft BB's broke it.Hi All,
I got a question on the bulletproof worthiness of this setup. My neighbor's house got hit by some random bullet that went clear through the stucco and into their bedroom. Everyone's fine but made me worried about my wall that faces that direction. My house was built in the 50s with ~1in stucco interior and .5" drywall interior. I'm looking up some DIY possibilities and was considering screwing in 1/2" lexan to the interior walls to act as some protection. Would anyone know how effective this would be? My google search only showed bare lexan being shot and the results weren't great getting to 9mm and above. However, with an 1" stucco barrier before the lexan, it should be much better in my mind. But wanted to check with some knowledgable folks here.
Thanks in advance!
I wouldn't ever consider it to stop any bullets.Comment

For all of your blow-hard reply above, nope, I have not even considered bullet proofing my walls to any degree in the slightest, nor plan to do so, and confirmed as much in an earlier post.Gleam.. you sound like you wear a mask in your car as well.
Nope - have rarely worn a mask at all since the COVID nonsense started, except when needing to be civil. You should try that last part sometime.

Please provide a link that backs your % claim. We all know what is said about randomly made up percentages of statistics in the moment. The people from the recent news story I posted just below the above, for whom a bullet came through their walls, surely would not care whether that .001% is factual or not.
Wtf is wrong with you? Shooting in the air??? Duh... you know that is not a wall above your head right? Do you understand terminal velocity?
Do you understand the minimized influence of terminal velocity on the eventual landing if that bullet is not fired in a perfectly perpendicular path to the ground? And that is rarely ever the case that it is? You DO understand that it is less than .001% that most anyone shooting into the air will ever achieve a perfectly verticle trajectory to facilitate a perfect up/down pathway that would allow the influence of terminal velocity - and has been proven that the after- effects of just a slight angle to shooting into the air ( as some drunk is apt to do) can serve fatal results at the bullet's final destination.
And you do realize a roof is merely an angled or horizontal wall above your head right?
But of course, that was not even the purpose to my reference of an increased gaggle of morons that I can hear shooting into the air in greater numbers, but I see how that could have been misconstrued as the implied threat in my post above.
No, instead I was making the inference that there are a LOT more stupid people with guns now than ever before, having exponentially increased the chance of stupid negligent actions, serving up a greater capacity for stupid results - for all sorts of stupid things they may do in the way of a negligent discharge beyond blindly shooting their gun at an angled trajectory into the air, whether in a densely populated area or rural edges of society.
Your odds are way better in lowering your sugar and salt intake and exercise.
You should try that - cut down on the caffeine while you're at it.

Not really - unless you're Michael Moore doing a documentary, and superciliously wish to show there is no reason to be prepared for any possible scenario, deny that even slim odds of serious consequences deserve a look into prevention, and want to base your views on urban-myths and Hollywoodized ideas of what it means to be prepared vs. truly examining such issues with science.
However, if I had young children in the house and I thought there was even your made-up statistic of a .001% chance a bullet coming through the wall of my home could happen, I would give it more weight and strategizing thought.
My precious cargo is mine, and what do you care what I would do to protect that? ( Unless you were Michael Moore trying to prove some point that Canadians don't even need to consider any such things.)
And all the above aside, I think it's worthy of discussion on Calguns for several reasons, and on-topic for this site in general, whether for personal protection at home, for fortifying a supply booth or service-side wall of a shooting range, or reinforcing the divider walls between lanes at said shooting range, while utilizing the lightest and thinnest - but by the most robust means possible.
And of course, if I lived in Israel near the Gaza strip, this would be a topic of paramount importance. For that matter, I have several friends with properties in Israel. They would definitely benefit from information gleaned in this thread.Last edited by The Gleam; 05-27-2021, 12:15 PM.-----------------------------------------------

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment
