    Lexan behind stucco/drywall for bulletproofing?

    Hi All,

I got a question on the bulletproof worthiness of this setup. My neighbor's house got hit by some random bullet that went clear through the stucco and into their bedroom. Everyone's fine but made me worried about my wall that faces that direction. My house was built in the 50s with ~1in stucco interior and .5" drywall interior. I'm looking up some DIY possibilities and was considering screwing in 1/2" lexan to the interior walls to act as some protection. Would anyone know how effective this would be? My google search only showed bare lexan being shot and the results weren't great getting to 9mm and above. However, with an 1" stucco barrier before the lexan, it should be much better in my mind. But wanted to check with some knowledgable folks here.

    Thanks in advance!

Put layer of plywoo0d inside then pour full of crushed rock then drywall. Much cheaper try a test wall with both materials.

I also posted this in the survivalist forum but thought there would be more traction here. Mods let me know if this isn't allowed and I will delete one of the posts.

pour walls up to 5' with crushed rock. May have to add osb inside then drywall over it.

Thanks for the responses. the area I live in is pretty safe, this is the first time something like this happened in the 4 years I've lived here. That side of the house is also where my kid's room is so that's why I'm looking at something for additional peace of mind. I also saw the bullet-resistant 4x8 panels but was thinking if that's just overkill for the situation

The challenge with this is weight. Most residential foundations will not last very long if you do that.

I have seen people attach sheets of steel to the studs and then drywall over that

You can buy kevlar fabric for not a lot of money. I think MrGunsGear did a video on homemade armor with stuff he ordered from amaozn and it worked pretty well. You could buy some and do some experimenting with lexan or whatever sandwiched with the kevlar and see what works. If nothing else, it would be much lighter than steel.

You could also build protection "zones" like around the bed so you don't have to cover the whole wall. Or you could just say eff it and spend big bucks for professionally made armor:

Kevlar Fabric, AR500 Ballistic Steel Tiles, Plate Cariers and soft armor panels Bullet Resistant materials ArmorCo Advanced Armor Ashtabula Ohio. Kevlar bullet proof.

Just thinking about options, I have seen guys used welded wire mesh (like fencing panels) and place two of them 12" apart like a concrete form, and use them to build property fences with large 1-2" drain rock poured in-between. Or the traditional cinder block wall construction with concrete or grout pumped/poured into the voids. Maybe a strong perimeter fence would be an easier way to get the results you want?

                      Lexan won't help much.
I have thought about this myself.
Was thinking about making concrete panels to fit in between the studs.
But weight will be an issue.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

My bro is an engineer I will see if he can calculate the increased psf for pour between 3 5/8" stud by 12.5"x60" standard wall . Could also add lathe on outside with gunnite and external brick, masonry fascia

Can be applied inside or outside:

BallistiCrete™ NIJ Level 3 and NIJ Level 4 bulletproof coating is a plaster mix with exceptional ballistic impact resistance. Our Ballistic panels have superior ceramic like strength and hardness qualities that are designed to offer ballistic protection against all handgun bullets, most rifle bullet
