Some here, myself included, have thought, or doing now, RV life.

So while watching these RV life (living) shows, & got me thinking.

Can you still buy firearms, when your home is the RV ? as you have no fixed home address.

You need a fixed address:

• To do your taxes
• For your driver's license/passport
• For your bank/retirement accounts
• For your vehicle insurance
• For your vehicle registration
• For your other bills (cell phone, credit card, vehicle loan)

Yes, you also need a fixed address to buy firearms, but that isn't the main reason one still needs one if you plant to "move into" an RV.

I'm surprised that you're watching these shows and no one has mentioned that on them. I used to deliver motorhomes and do out of state deliveries too. From talking with these people it seems like a favorite place to set up "residency" is South Dakota. Don't remember all the reasons, so you'll have to do a little more research on your own.

Get a PMB at a Postal Annex/ Mail Forwarding type place. Lots of cruisers do this.

End of problem. Get your mail forwarded to General Delivery at the closest USPS if you want.

Have anything requiring your personal intervention over-nighted to the nearest Holiday Inn.

Call ahead and let them know you are coming into town for a "convention" and to please hold anything that shows up.




PS. RVs like to burn down so find a nice fire-safe that fits under the bed. Easier to find afterwards.

I did a little research on this a few years ago. South Dakota seems to be the favorite because they will let you claim residence by just "living" there for a few days - maybe just one night and that can be a hotel.

They will also accept a mail forwarding place as your address. There is an affidavit to sign and then you can register your vehicles, vote and all the rest.

My memory may be a little hazy here as it was a few years ago but the information was very easy to find then.

I'm not going to look it up now, but I believe Idaho as some relatively easy residency requirements.

And I've heard South Dakota mentioned on the YouTube CheapRVliving channel. I don't know if this will answer your questions, but it might give you a place to start.
