Went to the Apex site and they have numerous options

Just want a trigger that doesn't feel like opening a Pringles can

The grittyness comes from the sear acting on the striker as well as the trigger bar interacting with the frame and the sear.
You can polish the factory parts to smooth them out.

My trigger was much improved by reshaping and smoothing the striker safety plunger, took all the grit out. They sell an improved version for around $30 but it's just more rounded and polished so I just removed mine and chucked it in my drill press and worked it over. I am no expert so I leave sear surfaces alone except for a minor cleanup.

It does require tapping out the rear sight and I wouldn't advise this unless you have at least some experience. Mine wasn't to tight but I have read some are a PIA. I carry mine so I didn't want a "light" trigger.

Exactly what I did and some other polishing, took my trigger down 2 lbs and removed all the gritty feeling.

I had a similar question about an SD9VE and CCW. Short answer is it depends on the county you are in and your IA should be able to provide clear direction. In my particular county, deputies flat out said they don't care about mods as long as the weapon passes their safety inspection. However, they don't recommend mods because it's something that can/will be brought up by lawyers in court if, God forbid, you ever had to use your CCW.

A engraving, like "you're ducked" or something would likely not bode well, but imo a trigger upgrade, provided it's safely done, can increase accuracy and reliability, so it's not a big deal in court to defend that choice... coming from someone who has never been in court for any reason. So take this with a few grains of salt.

Apex is the way to go. I HATE the hinged trigger on S&W handguns. Apex made it so much better, well worth the $$
