    Star PD 45

I have a early model Star PD 45. Its marked, THE GARCIA CORP. WASH. D.C. The serial number has two different fonts . The first 5 numbers are same but the last two numbers are smaller and spaced differently. I was told when they were made in Spain the first block of numbers were applied. Then after being imported the last numbers and the importer were applied. Does anyone know if this is true or any info as to collect ability. Current value here in California.

Sorry I cannot answer your question but...

It is a great pistol. Perfect size and weight and mine never failed to do anything. Wish I still had it.

    Best to you.

The Garcia company was just one importer of modern Star Firearms. I know that the importer has to put their name on it, though from what I know if the gun has a serial number that complies with BATF standard they don't have to put a new serial number or modify the existing one.

There are quite a few people who like Star Firearms and there are quite a few people who don't. The Firestar series is popular with those who are interested in CCW and don't mind carrying a heavy gun.

As for value in CA? It's worth as much as you can get for it. Start high and when no one bites, lower the price until it sells.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Friend of mine had one too in the '70's. Quite a handful considering how light it was.

Check GunBroker completed auctions then add a reasonable CA premium. Remember there is a lot more modern and better choices these days for similar guns unless you want one for nostalgia.

Magazines are hard to find and not cheap. The guns are not made for extensive shooting.

I sold the exact gun with one mag few years back for $395 if my memories are correct. It was in excellent condition. Very popular with LEOs in the 90's.

Had 1 of those that i carried - its 6 round mag was loaded with 185gr +P rounds and the other mag with the same.

I never shot it a lot, and bought 1 because i read massad ayoob said it was gtg.

And, that's why it's popular with the CCW folks. [emoji41]

i've had a few since the mid 70s and mine were quite reliable with factory hardball. problem was the soft aluminum frame that could be dented shooting hp's and also the possibility of the frame cracking. i currently have one in excellent condition and it is a garcia offering. the other one i have is an interarms gun that developed cracks in the left side of the frame near the slide stop and also on the frame rails. the garcia gun i mentioned above was purchased retail at a lgs and i paid about $400 for it several years ago. it came with pachmayr grips that i replaced with hakan pek custom grips.
