Oh, BTW - I've seen the videos of the Albany shoots. Clearly not even in the same league as Big Sandy. If Big Sandy were that lame, I wouldn't waste my time either.

Albany is not for watching. Albany is for renting and shooting. In that respect Big Sandy is no comparison. Even Knob can't match the prices. Or fun. Renting an mg42 at Knob I had to keep it locked in the T&E. Big whoop, all I was doing is pushing on a lever. Renting an mg42 at Albany, for much less money mind you, it was on a pintle mount. He linked together a 300 round belt for me and let me burn it through the gun.

If I want to watch tanks I can go to my friends 1000 acre range he rents to ft huachuca. He has tanks running all over so the army can practice targeting with drones.

I would love to see that. Especially if it's off-base so I don't need real ID.

That said - You were saying earlier that you are going to open a competitor event to Big Sandy - a full auto mecca, you said - and now you say, "why would I do that"? Guess you and yourself need to talk to each other more...or maybe you've spent too much time out there in the heat already....

I guess if you don't own MGs, you need to go to a place that lets you rent and shoot stuff. As a shooter, I wouldn't waste my time and I certainly wouldn't rent my stuff to anyone.

So why are you pimping this shoot in this forum so hard? Most people here don't have belt-feds, and if they do, they're well aware of Big Sandy and/or have their own place to shoot, like Phil.

If what you mean by "pimping this shoot" is "defending the shoot" - yeah, I am defending it. I know the guys that run it, and they put a lot of time and energy into it. They put it on not to make money off of it, but because they're shooters and they want to make a place for all of us to experience an event like this here in AZ. (Oh, and if you'd ever been - you'd see that it's not just belt feds...lots of other stuff too...every kind of gun you can imagine).

I'm also defending it because I'm tired of loudmouths spouting off about how they would make a better shooting event than Big Sandy, cheaper, etc...but they've not even been to Big Sandy, much less put on an event of that size. Yet they have all of the answers.

Phil here is a great case in point. Earlier in this thread, he spouts off about how he's making plans to put on a shooting event several times a year, that will be (if I read those posts correctly) larger and more interesting than Big Sandy. So a couple of days ago, I ask in this thread when those events are going to start up...because I know the answer. He's not doing jack ****. Now the story switches to him just putting on events for his buddies (with lots of added side-comments about how great and close to the city his land is, how much guys pay him per hour to use his land, him getting laid while he's shooting, etc.). But he still runs Big Sandy down. Why?

"Why are you and Phil so against Big Sandy?" is actually a more pertinent question. You both seem not satisfied enough with simply avoiding it...you have to criticize it too.

Oh, and if Phil ever DOES put on a public shoot...I don't think I'd go. He wrote some weird stuff in this thread about getting a hummer while shooting a machine gun...and being nude at a shoot just wearing cowboy boots, I think he said. Hey I'm not judging or nothing but...I'll stick with the boring, family-oriented event. I'm just there to shoot subguns at RC planes man...

When I went, I paid the $35 as a spectator, and the organizers let me film from my BIL's range spot. I paid another $20 to compete in the sniper event. The $35 was a good deal to camp out and hang out every night with good people around a fire, laughing, grilling meat, drinking beers, and waking up to the sound of dual water-cooled .50bmgs in a tora tora mount. You can't do that in Yosemite.

I hope to make it out for one of the October dates in the future so it's not so hot.

There are always miniguns at every Big Sandy shoot...there's a retired physician from Wyoming who brings one every time, and he isn't afraid to run it often. You'll see/hear it for sure, especially at night with 10-second tracer dumps. He puts a quarter-mile long tracer stitch across that mountain backstop!

Shooting matches are held Friday and Saturday afternoons at the Big Sandy. See the schedule on the web site.

Weather differs Spring vs. Fall. October is hotter (highs 80s and may hit low 90s), and dry. Nights are gorgeous, may want a light jacket but definitely not cold. Campfires after the shoot are more for effect than warmth.

March is a wild card...could rain, could be sunny...days start cold (50s or even colder sometimes) and warm up nicely to 70s-80s. Cools off fast there when the sun drops. The night shoot (full dark ~7:30 - 9) will be in the 60s.

Winds - expect the unexpected either time. It can and does go from dead calm to gusts/gales and back to dead calm without warning.

Hats and sunblock are a must. It is full sun behind the firing line. Also recommend having a lightweight chair/stool you can carry with you and plenty of water. A pack will serve you well and be more helpful than a pain up there, given the length of the firing line...

Enjoy KCMS, I regret I never made it there (too close in timing to Big Sandy most years).

It will be nice to have a closer event than Kentucky. Maybe as more people attend the event will add more features.

One thing about no filming thats a little distressing, is that network TV will not have the ability to blame Republicans for a FAKE blood bath when we properly end an endless war.

This video was shown on ABC as proof the Kurds were being slaughtered after Trump ended the endless war.
The fact no carnage did occur and network made it up by using Knob creek footage, is not lost on me.

Considering this current fool pulled out troops before they secured American lives and lost billions in serious weapons and network Tv is probably silent, says lots!

BTW I do not remember FAKE news ABC being heavily criticized for deliberately lying about President Trumps successful ending of that conflict.

The MG Shooters crew really have controlled the video production during the events, as much as they can anyway. The old "Trigger Time" filmed quite a bit on that range, both during the events and at other times. Gunny was there for at least 2 events, and walked the line both times, greeting the shooters and posing for photos, etc. Another time a crew was there to record the sounds of various MGs for video game tracks...lots of rare weapons together in one spot...

I'd rather burn through $300 in ammo on my land than drive 3 hours and pay $35 to watch my friends shoot their guns. Or pay $250 to shoot my guns when I can shoot them for free. But oyu can't seem to grasp that concept of value. Static shooting is for bolt guns. Being able to shoot however you want changes the entire level of gun ownership.

Glad you finally understand some of us don't need to go to Big Sandy. Asking me not to go to BS has zero impact on my decision. I had 22 opportunities to make the drive and have not done it for good reason. I can have more fun elsewhere.

A lot has happened since I made that post. Look at my post history. I have not been around in months. Very busy. How do I even plan something when there is no time to start? Or maybe I changed my mind because something better has come along. Or maybe I already have something better now. Like I already said, I have smaller events with friends on my land. I can do things there that can only be done with small or no crowds. I never said my range was going to be a competitor or bigger. I have no competition. It was to be a smaller and better location. It already is now. I just had to open it to the public. The nice thing is if I want I still can but for now it is only for invited guests. Thats the nice thing about being able to make your own decisions. You cna change your mind. Sorry if oyu don't have that option and can only go to things like big sandy or other public events. Maybe one day you can see the better stuff.

I'm not crapping on Big Sandy as a public event. It looks fun. You just seem to be getting so butthurt because I have more fun with better toys. But I like to have fun with only a few people around me. I don't want to be part of crowds. For example, I just came back from Grand Canyon. Not the tourist part. I drove into the bottom and parked 2 feet from the Colorado river. We spent 4 hours there relaxing in the river. Not a single person near us. Only left because i had to make the 3.5hr drive back so my girl could go to work the next day. The day before we were in Oak Creek near Sedona. Just the two of us. We napped 4 feet from the creek. No one else around.

See, you can go to big sandy and have fun. But you cannot go to my land to have more fun. I can go to big sandy whenever I want, I just prefer shooting with my friends on my land or theirs. I have options. You don't. And that is why you are so hurt. I saw the problems years ago when public land here was being closed. Every year fire restrictions start sooner and end later. The smart ones looked for land. The guys like oyu just hoped you can shoot on someone elses land. But look at KNob Creek. CLosed. How much longer will Big Sandy be around? I love how I can shoot all year round with no restrictions. For free.

I made an honest comment on how Big Sandy is not a big deal to me and you got all emotional. I'm glad there are places like that for guys like oyu that do not have land.
