Consignment Question For a First Time Buyer

Hey y'all! I hope I have this in the correct forum!

I'm in the process of purchasing my very 1st firearm, and I had a question regarding the consignment process as i'm not familiar with this or any of this. So, there is an FFL nearby in the LA area that has an off roster firearm on consignment that i've had my eye on for sometime and i'm nervous about doing a PPT and being new on the forums not many people want to deal with newbies, what would the process be if I decide to pull the trigger on purchasing the firearm (assuming it's still there)?

I've never purchased a firearm before. From what I've gathered on my research is, I have my FSC, I just go to the FFL shop. Purchase the firearm, wait 30 days, and then come back to register the weapon and complete the paperwork for the transfer, and then wait another 10 days for background check etc? I'm in no rush to have the firearm right away, i'm taking a basic handgun course in the coming weeks. Thanks everyone!!

Where did you get the idea you have to pay, wait 30 days, come back and then wait another 10 days?

Just forget about it being consignment or the particulars of the consignment process - as a buyer that does not really concern you. It is just a used gun with no warranty so far as you care.

Go buy the gun and do the paperwork, come back 10 days later and get it.

Good luck, be safe, welcome to Calguns.

^^ what SkyHawk said. And have a real ID driver's license, and name and address all match up on your paperwork.

In case this is an account being set up for future scams:
It could be up to 30, especially if you're a first time buyer.

My consignment process was that the store would transfer and hold the gun. Then when they sell it they take their cut and a check came to me as the seller. I never saw the buyer. Buyer got the gun in 10 days.

Oh I see, the things I said were just random questions that came to my head. With the 30 day hold was a comment I saw. I just googled consignment and firearm and a Calgun thread popped and someone responded that the firearm would have to be subject to a 30 day hold since its being processed by DOJ or something to that end if that makes sense.

I'll prob just call the FFL tomorrow for a better explanation. Just a bit embarrassed to call, much easier to ask online lol. Thank you though!!!!

I don't have a RealID, nor do I have an FLA license and I have no problems buying guns.

                  Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I don't need to show my passport to buy a gun.

                      WingDings is partially correct.

When a dealer takes in a gun on consignment, they have to hold it for 30 days before it can be DROSed to a new owner.

A lot of dealers will put the gun out on display to get the ball rolling on a sale. They will tell you that you can buy it now but can't start the DROS until XX day of the month. If its already been in the store for 30 days you can start the DROS as soon as you buy it.

Your 10 twenty-four hour waiting periods start when you start the DROS. So, it could be in your hands in as quick as 10 days, or as long as 40 days. Just depends on where it's at in the 30 day waiting period.

Brilliant!! Thanks for the explanation!! Looks like it got sold anyway, so looks like i'll have to wait anyways. Now I understand, and know what to expect if another one pops up again. Sorry, if I sounded like a total idiot. Very excited to take my 1st firearm course as well, prob best I wait till after I take this class to buy a firearm so I'm a little more informed on buying a firearm! Thank you again everyone!!! Wish there was a upvote system here, i'd give all of y'all one for the quick reponses!
