    Stripped Lower question

Hey everyone. So i just got a bunch of stripped lowers to put in the safe for a rainy day.

My question is how do you guys store your lowers? Do you just keep them in the box in the safe? Do you build them out with parts kits and then just leave them in the safe?

I have plenty of already built rifles so no real need for these lowers. Just wanted to get my hands on them before Joe Xiden and his cohorts get cracking on a ban.

Keep them in the safe, outside boxes unless you prepare them with grease for storage. For some reason, a lot of different types of foam retain moisture and can make them rust, depending on where you live and how your storage area is set up.

If you're not concerned about rust, just keep them as-is in the safe.

If you have other guns, no need to build the lowers up. It's just a hassle and you might want to use different parts kits when you're ready to put them together. Nothing wrong with putting them together either, but then you have to keep an eye on any changes to the "constructive possession" laws (not an issue at the moment, but legislators can change it at any time, so you just have to pay attention to it).

I usually install the bolt catch assembly and trigger guard, then store them individually in a Crown Royal bag and stack them in the safe.

Having the trigger guard and bolt catch already installed means I can put them into action quickly if needed, with minimal fuss. Those two steps usually need jigs or mounts to get right and need to be done carefully to avoid damage. After those things are installed you should not need a hammer and punch again unless you want to stake the castle nut.

Of course in a real SHTF scenario, you could run without either of those assemblies.

You might as well assemble them now. There are rumors that lower/upper kits will be added to a CA list of things that need to have a background check before sale to try and kill the ghost gun builds.
You have the lowers buy all the parts to finish them. I have a few 80% lowers that I will not machine yet. I have enough to replace each registered lower I currently own and a few extra. For the extras I have some cheapo uppers along with stocks and lower kits. My plan is if they ban them and force a buyback they can have the registered lowers and I'll machine up new ones. If they demand the whole gun I have enough parts to build a few for the upcoming war. Those will get the milspec 3rd hole.

Nope, not parody - certainly dumb enough to grease steel lowers.

I build them out complete to functioning lowers then look for an upper.

Make sure you get LPKs for each of them. If Biden gets his way parts may become an item that requires a background check.

I would suggest buffer tubes, action springs, buffers, and castle nuts too. But start with LPKs.

I bought a couple extra uppers, barrels, a few BCGs, some complete bolts, and bolt parts. Basically, have spare parts for everything in you AR.

Same if you have 80% lowers too.

sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

IVC, where are you finding steel AR lowers? I want some.
I also want an iron one, and a brass one.

DPMS made them in the early 2000's, it was about the extra weight. Not sure how popular they are these days, but they certainly exist.

For iron and brass you'll have to search yourself much like you could've searched for the steel ones. Would've saved you a sarcastic comment that happens to be incorrect.
