Really, you could stack them anyway that you found useful, even in semi-auto. There are others here that are much more knowledgeable on this but the purpose is to track whether you're on target or walk you line of fire to the target so you can put proper rounds on them. So they don't need to be every round, just enough to give the general direction every so often. Plus I believe proper tracers run very hot and will heat up the barrel pretty quickly if every round. Someone will be along eventually to lay out the fundamentals I'm sure.

Most people don’t realize that tracer rounds are regulated as “explosive materials” under federal law, and that the ATF has many special rules related to the purchase, sale, storage, and transportation of tracer rounds (including the requirement that both the buyer and seller of tracer rounds hold a federal explosives license or permit). This means you’re going to have to jump through a bunch of legal hoops and specialized record keeping in order to legally buy or sell them.

Can you please cite to the federal law or laws which support what you typed above regarding federal explosive permits/licenses for buyer and seller or anything like that? Or the federal law which regulates tracers as explosives different than regular ammunition.

        Thanks.

Tracer ammunition has several purposes and one of them is to demoralize the people being shot at. People being shot at generally know that tracer isn't every round and if the rounds are headed remotely in their direction the next one could be it. Then, not everyone firing is doing so in the same direction. You might know where the tracer went but that doesn't mean the rest are going to the same place.

Not much is more demoralizing than seeing tracers going by. The thought going through your mind isn't they they aren't hitting you its that very quickly they could be. Then you think about what sometimes follows tracers and those aren't small arms weapons fire but something a bit larger. They don't need to hit you directly to be effective.

Tracer burnout also identifies range. If you know the tracer burnout range you can estimate range in the dark quite easily. If the impact is within the tracer burnout range then you also know the approx distance is within your effective range.

Walking onto target works but is a double edged sword because they can allow others to work out where you are. BTW, that is why lasers on guns aren't all that smart, they tell everyone where you are and if you can't see them they sure can see you. IR lasers are better but anyone with IR equipment can also see you.
Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

Defense is a losing proposition when time is on the side of the opponent. In the history of humanity, no defense has ever won against an enemy with time on their side.

When we were shooting Vectors out of my buddy's MAC, it was every other round. They didn't work so great out of my other buddy's MP5, not enough oomf. We got weird jams where empties got into the lower behind the hammer.

That sounds more like a Stribog SP9A3 than an MP5.

Why not? I've done full mags of tracers. At Christmas I mix in red and green tracers.

For my faster guns I do 1:5 You just can't see each tracer when it is running at 1200+ rpm. But I load a full mag when I shoot my UZI.

Even firing .22lr out of a revolver is fun.

In CA I think possession of tracer ammunition is considered a felony and not a misdemeanor. If true it isn't something to fool around with.

Breathing in Ca. is a felony, or will be if they get there way.

Oh, they do that too? This was circa 1999 so the Stribog was not invented yet. It was weird for it to happen, we couldn't figure out how a casing could get in there. Vectors had a 115 gr bullet and functioned just fine in the MAC, so I don't know what was going on in the MP5. We gave up after a few failed tries.

As an aside, they called it "illuminated trajectory" instead of tracers.

I had a bunch of it too. Unfortunately it all got stolen when all my other stuff was stolen.

Yes, the Stribog A3 version has had this issue that was discussed ad nauseam at arf.com, YouTube and FB. The factory just shrugged it off, saying it's the Americans who are using underpowered ammo, and don't know better than to clear malfunctions with the barrel pointed up. They also issued a "voluntary upgrade." The aftermarket has come up with many other solutions fortunately.

I don't expect this ammo to be as bad as incendiary tracers, but I wonder how it would play out with a suppressor.

I wonder if it's visible during the daytime.
