As a prop gun ....why don't you just buy a "parade rifle" .From 3 feet away they look just like an M 16 , and are molded plastic. Some use a thrashed 'empty upper' and mold a lower and stock onto it. If you go to a parade that is what the "Young Marines" are carrying.

You would have to see one up close .With the real upper and barrel and the plastic stock they are just as an M16 would be.There is just a hard rubber {think car tire} lower holding all the components together.
