    Advice, Keep, Sell, or Trade

    Hi,
I recently acquired a Ruger PC 9mm, CZ Rami 9mm, and a Girsan MC312 for family protection.

    I am low on rounds.

I attempted to buy bulk 1000 round 9mm ammo - by mistake 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 was shipped by mistake.

So finding ammo fairly scarce, I decided it would be easier to just buy a rifle chambered in 7.62 x 39 and planned on ZASTAVA ZPAP M70 - but there are now none to be found.

    What would you do?

Would you trade the 7.62ammo for 9mm?
Would you sell the 7.62 and try to buy 9mm?
Would you get a bolt action CZ 527 or American Rugar or something else?

Objective: family self-defense in a no law situation.

My only firearm was my duty weapon M9 last fired in Iraq in 2004 - so I don't have much in the way of firearms knowledge.

    Thanks,
    Dave

The rifle ammo is worth more (absent this recent nonsense).

I honestly, if I wasn't a gun person with an active hobby at the range I'd just buy a box or two of 9mm for home defense and call it done.

Selling the 7.62 should more thank make up for your 9mm mix up.

If you think you will want a 7.62 x 39 rifle anytime soon, save the ammo unless you are so low on 9mm that you cannot defend yourself.

Otherwise, offer to trade for 9mm.
If your trade amount is fair, you will get some 9mm soon.

If you do not know, 500 rounds per month is the limit, so be careful how you word your ad if you sell or trade it here.

I'd keep the ammo and patiently seek out another AK. Just because the specific rifle you want is OOS at the moment doesn't mean something else will pop up. Keep an eye out for Saiga's, Arsenals, WASR's, NPAP's, OPAP's, and SKS in the for sale section on the forum. Something will show up eventually for a decent price and when it does, don't hesitate and be ready to jump on it quickly.

For 9mm ammo (since availability is limited right now), you can probably get by purchasing 50-100 rounds of hollow point ammo for HD if you can find some. Only reason to buy 1,000 rounds s to practice with.

Is it steel or brass? What price did you get for them, did they charge you 9mm price or x39 price? 9mm is potentially worth more to the general public right now. Not sure if you can flip it.

Have you checked with KVAR in Las Vegas or Atlantic Firearms? Those are 2 of the bigger AK houses and they did have stuff in stock.

Don't expect to trade AK rounds straight across for 9mm. I have plenty of both but if I was trading I would want 3 to 1 for the trade.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

OP this might be a half way decent deal- https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1655259

I'm not affiliated with the seller. Polish Radom's are good rifles, however you might want to search around online to get an idea on the normal price range for these rifles.

As mentioned above, Atlantic Firearms is probably the best online source for AK's (and brands) and KVAR isn't bad too.

Trade half for 9mm ammo and keep the rest.

You’re far better off sitting on the case of ammo - if you could score an SKS for a decent price, do that (AK’s are going to be overpriced for a while and SKS is a little more resistant to bans and so on).

I would buy an SKS to hold me over until ammo of your choice becomes available

Trade 500 of the AK ammo for 9mm, can legally trade up to 500 rounds a month, then the next month trade the other 500, need to go through a ammunition dealer or someone with a FFL.

a bolt action in 762 sounds kinda fun. Dont fixate on an AK when ammo shortage is your main concern. A bolty would save you ammo and kill enough time at the range for you

Keep looking for the zpap and you can get it eventually. Good luck

Also, get a reloading press and start looking for components for 9mm
