I CCW a SP-101 with 357 loads (180 grain hardcast Underwood). It had some problems OOTB but Ruger made it good and I trust it enough to carry.

I bought a Match Champion in October. I had always wanted a GP100, but could not find one in stock up here. I went to the lgs and they had a MC and a GP100 with a ton of engraving on it. I bought the MC. I think it was a good choice. While not overly heavy, it feels as if there is no recoil. Very easy to shoot.

I once owned a Ruger Blackhawk .357 with 6-1/2 barrel, purchased in 1968. It was built like a tank, and deadly accurate. I regret selling it to this day.

I have no experience with the New Model Blackhawk, but I do have a Single Six New Model with the transfer bar. It is nice to be able to load all six rounds without having to worry about having a live round under the hammer.

Blackhawk & Redhawk are kinda overkill for .357.

Now... for .44 Magnum...

I have the newer SBH in .44 Magnum. The trigger is nowhere near as bad as 4 click purists would have ya believe.

Not sure I would really want one in .357 unless maybe I had a .357 lever gun & wanted a matching revolver, in which case I'd be looking at a Vaquero.

Gp100 and sp101 are great but heavy. I prefer the 3" models for both and the old style grips. Heavy triggers that can be remedied with spring change

All but one of my 5 revolvers are Rugers. I reload so I wanted something that was overbuilt, didn't have to be beautiful. Eye of the beholder....

I had an SP101 2.5" and it can shoot 357s without hurting too bad. I now have a LCR357, ouch. I mainly shoot and carry 38+p.

I couldn't find it at the time but I would also have liked an Old Army cap and ball so I can get the conversion cylinder and say I only have Ruger revolvers. Instead I got an Uberti 1858, it's still fun.

Have both a GP100 and aSecurity 6 that I use for testing loads for a de-tuned Coonan and they are loads of fun. Why tune on a Coonan you ask, well I have the dream it will someday be in the line up with my Colt mid-range and S&W 52. Someday I will leave things alone.

Yep! I have a 6.5in anniversary Blackhawk in .44 and a 9.5in redhawk in .44 they are both awesome.

It's a revolver, not a tank and has the weaknesses inherent to revolvers. That saying is ridiculous and needs to go away. Mine is starting to spit after a few thousand dry fires and 700 rounds or so.

I've enjoyed my GP-141 (black finish). I added Ruger's compact grips and chamfered the charge holes. I really like the swappable front sight. Mine has a pretty good trigger, but it could use a gunsmith's touch. Overall, it's a good revolver.

I took it to a two day class. It performed very well. I used 38 Special and it rolls in the hand well during speed shooting. Reliability was perfect and accuracy was pretty good; a better trigger would have helped.

For a range toy a 6" Blackhawk is hard to beat. I have an early 3 screw with a trigger pull measured in ounces that is a hoot. The 6" Blackhawk handles full house loads better than any other 357 I have.

An sp101 is not a fun gun with full house loads. The GP100 is your next best bet.

Tell us more - are you saying that hot gases and particles are escaping from the cylinder gap each time you live fire it?
