Looking to add a Ruger revolver. It would be a range toy for fun. No experience with them. Considering GP100, Redhawk/Blackhawk, Vaquero, but open to suggestions. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ruger 357 experience

GP 100 is built like a tank, dry fire the hell out of it and the trigger gets fantastic.
I think the GP100 is the best bang for the $$. -
I really like the balance of the 4” gp100. Keeps muzzle flip down on the full house rounds.Comment

I have a GP100 and had a Match Champion; IMO the balance and trigger of the standard model surpassed the Match Champion hands down. The MC's hammer wasn't even centered in the frame opening, a sign that Ruger's QC has gone downhill some. I sold the Match Champion to buy the standard GP100; that should tell you something.
I have a Vaquero Old Model in .357; it's built like a safe, very accurate and is essentially a fixed sight Blackhawk. I have no experience with the New Model, though.
I also have a .357 Blackhawk. Likewise, it's heavily built and will accept loads that would be the demise of lesser pistols.
Any of them would be a good bet.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

I have a plain old SS GP100. The are very hardy and will last. I'm not a wheel gun lover, but I enjoy shooting the GP100 once in a while.sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.Comment

Had a gp100 (4.2"), was a great gun but the stock grip was no bueno for me. I enjoy shooting my sp101 (3") in 357 so much more.
Big advantage of the gp100 was much better sights, especially with the high viz front. The extra weight didn't hurt either, although the sp101 is still very manageable even with fairly warm 357 and me not being a huge recoil guy. The fixed rear on the sp101 is not great formmy aging eyes. Tempted to spend the money and get a jframe adjustable installed.
Also the sp101 is built like a tank, and the gp100 makes it feel flimsy. The gp100 felt like you could club a mammoth to death with it and then go out shooting.Comment

I've had two Ruger wheelguns. a 4" GP100 and a 6" Redhawk in .44 magnum. Regret selling both of them.Comment

You won't be disappointed with whatever choice you make. I own several Ruger revolvers, and feel like I could depend on any of them.Comment

SP101 with a short barrel and full power loads if you want to break your hand. At the same time though, if you can master this, you can master any handgun.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, a Blackhawk with a 6in bbl makes full house loads feel like a 9mm. Get the extra 9mm cylinder, and shooting 9mm will feel like a .22.Comment
