Easier said than done, given that there is a silencer design using 1 liter soda bottles, and that many guys have pipe and misc pieces of metal, and rubber or plastic materials...

If you have a pipe or metal tube that has a thread on one end for the muzzle and thread at the other end for the coke bottle, that device itself is a silencer for the purpose of the federal law according to ATF Firearms Technology Branch. If you have a tax stamp for it, then you are okay. I will post on full auto conversion issues soon.

That conversion was sold in Shotgun news for about 6 months some years ago. It used a 2 liter plastic soda bottle. The ads disappeared all at once and were never seen again.

"● The Gun Control Act of 1968 Title 18 defines the “silencer”:

Any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm,........"

            What's "portable"?

IIRC, there was a guy in Europe that was selling those soda adapters for the Walther P22 as a "cleanaing aid". The "idea" was that when you screwed on the soda bottle, you could pour cleaning solvents down the barrel and collect them in the bottle.

He would ship them direct to US civilians

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

In a related item, IIRC, BATFE allows for you to make a permanent fixed location set of baffles that you can shoot through.

One common example I've heard of is a set of tires that you shoot through the middle of.

Taken to its most extreme is this

"Portabe" firearm is conventional handguns, rifles and shotguns. If you build a fixed silencer device at home to test your guns, that is okay as long as it conforms to local laws. The silencers discussed here is the one you can attach to your small arms.

Does this then mean that fake cans could be classified as a suppressor?

the BATFE's opinion is that literally anything and everything is a silencer.

I could built (but I wont) a silencer out of nearly any random handful of household crap (and some ducttape) and it would work to diminish the report of the firearm at least 'one decibel for one round'

Heck a cloth sack you stick the gun in to fire is a silencer under the BATFE definition....

If you have a plastic container, plastic bags, and tape in your house you are breaking the law according the the BATFE definition.

Fake can with the staight hole is okay. If you modify the fake can to have holes inside to redirect the propellant gas is not okay.

                            The regulation says "portable firearm"

                            What's a "portable firearm"?

So If I make a suppressor that is "permanently" attached to wall or a polycarbonate window contraption ,that can also float freely within whatever non-moving part of my house, is that ok?

Im thinking something along the lines of having the supressor permanently attached to a multi-point harness that is permanently attached to inside whatever structure in your house(so it can still point different directions and whatnot)...if that makes sense..
