    Counterfeit Glock Mags?

    Hello Cal Gunners,

I recently purchased a Glock magazine from a local FFL. It is Glock branded and came in the standard Glock packaging, however, when I got it home, I noticed it wouldn't fall out of my G17 as easily as the two mags that came with the gun. I also noticed that it was significantly more difficult to drop the slide on this empty mag than on the other two that came with the gun. My other two mags don't have that many rounds through them, maybe 150 rounds each, so difference in wear should be pretty minimal.

I also noticed that the prints on the actual mag is very different from the other two originals.

In the photos the suspect mag is in the middle. Notice how the '9' in '9mm' is more elongated on the new mag, and notice where the new numbers are placed in comparison to the original mags. Also, notice the lot number near the bottom of the mag whereas the other mags just say 'Austria.'

I'm not sure if this is counterfeit or if it's just a different gen magazine.

    --EDIT--

The magazine did come in a Glock brand blister pack, that's why I had confidence in purchasing it.

Thanks everyone for you insight, CalGunners are always awesome!

Let me know what you think!

My first thought is that they are the real deal. The packaging should be a good indication. The real deal OEM retail mags come in a cardboard blister pack. There are different generations of mags and the geometry, markings and followers have changed over the years. Though all will function between generations with the exception of the Gen 4-5 mags having the ambi cutouts. You can use a Gen 3 mag in a Gen 4-5 but not with the mag released switched for a lefty.

If they don't drop free, see what Glock has to say about it. If it's an issue with the mags, they'll take care of it.

They're known to make fake Glock magazines...

U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Savannah Port of Entry seized a container of manifested firearm magazines and found over 500 cartons of pistol magazines. Upon further inspection, the magazines were all stamped with the famed Glock trademark. The magazines, all 59,100 of them, reportedly have a suggested retail price of $2.1 million, according …

Yeah, that's why I mentioned the packaging. Those are in weird looking bags. But I'm sure it could fool plenty of people. All ready to sell on eBay.

They look real to me. My Glock 43, 43x, Gen 5’s, and stick mags are all non-Austria with the new font.

Does the new mag have a full metal liner?

Can you weigh the old and new mag? (empty!)

And yes, the brand new mag spring will absolutely make a difference and be stiffer than a mag even with just 150rds through it.

your magazine could be a US mfg Glock mag

the made in US ones usually have numbers , and the european ones are marked "AUSTRIA"

my G26 magazines are not marked AUSTRIA , because they were manufactured in the US, but they have numbers

When factory Glock mags are around $25 each and the Magpul ones that work great are $15, someone has to be using slave labor and free materials to make some that they can sell even cheaper. Oh wait...

Glock mags are metal lined. Magpul is just plastic.

KCI also metal line their glock magazines like OEM but sell at ~$16 each.

What do the base plate say ?

Glock Mags do come in small bags. When I Exchange mags at the Glock factory the replacement mags they gave me were in a small bag. clear on one side and all white on the other

While it could be counterfeit, some Glock mags were made to not drop free. I think some police agencies did not want the mags to be accidentally ejected.

They can be made into 'drop free' with a bit of sanding.

You can find a lot of discussions about these mags on the glock fan sites.

I've got one Austrian Glock mag that is the non-drop free. You have to pull it out of the pistol. Apparently those were made so you wouldn't lose them in the snow?
