    need advise on buying..

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a complete upper receiver from a seller out of my area.. This seller will have to ship the upper to me. What is the best way to complete the transaction to protect the buyer, "myself" and or the "seller" from being scammed? I don't feel comfortable sending someone money not knowing if they'll send me the item?? Thank you for the help..

    What's their iTrader rating?

How many post do they have?

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I seriously suggest you do not move forward with the purchase. If I was the seller, I would require full payment up front prior to my shipping. Given your concern, not moving forward seems to be the best course of action.

If they have no concern about your 0 itrader it maybe means they are scamming you. But everyone has to start somewhere. My first 3 were in person gun sales in my city.

Do you live in an area so weird that there are no uppers available or are you just unwilling to buy an upper from a reputable source?

If he contacted you from your WTB ad, be very careful.

We have plenty of scammers there.

Long time member, high iTrader rating, probably good.

If the seller contacted you and said send money to a friend who has what you need, run, don't walk.

New member, zero iTrader, run even faster.

            Good luck.

I wouldn’t buy from anyone with a zero itrader rating. I’d sell to someone with zero rating. but if I’m shipping to anyone I’d want the money upfront regardless of their rating.

So as others have said, if they have a good itrader rating, you’re more than likely ok sending them money in advance. If not, run screaming.

OP has zero itrader and looking to buy. Seller unknown. Best way to build itrader rating is to buy from others that have good itrader ratings. Have to start somewhere.

OP, if you are concerned by this, than find something in stock online at a vendor. Otherwise, not much else you can do.

IF: you reached out to seller, it's probably safe
IF: seller reached out to your WTB ad & has positive feedback, it's likely safe.
IF: seller reached out to your WTB ad & has zero feedback & just joined recently, tread carefully.
IF: seller reached out to your WTB ad with "my compatriot in city of Ames in Iowa has the gun part M5 caliber 308 of which you are to seek , please to make contact with him with email of ____" then it's a scam. Post their messages, it's fun to read.

OP has a WTB ad here. https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1691381

OP there is a very strong chance you will be scammed. Tell us who the seller is and we can take a look.

I usually do local buying or selling but just like you’re planning on doing I bought a expensive Sig upper that was a few hundred dollars on here from a seller that wasn’t local and I used PayPal so there was no recourse if anything bad happened, but the seller had been on the forums for awhile and had a good itrader rating so I bought it with a slight hesitation only but the whole transaction went smooth and he shipped quickly. If the seller had low to no itrader and possibly new, I probably wouldn’t have gone through with it.

Thank you All for the info, I appreciate the help... I'm thinking this is a scam.. I posted a WTB ad for an upper because I can't find one anywhere.. Out of stock everywhere and I don't have time to be on the internet waiting for one to drop. The seller contacted me and has a Itrader 2 score.. and posts 9... I don't want to label someone or point fingers without 100% proof, but look at this info.. the pictures the seller posted are the same as a youtube channel build. Original owner? or did you build this upper yourself? I'm good with price also if you are cool with shipping it to me.. I'm in the Sacramento California area.. Thanks..

I'm the original owner of this upper receiver. The scope in the picture doesn't come with the complete upper at that price.

Also, I'm cool with shipping the upper receiver to you at Sacramento, CA. I prefer shipping with UPS because of convenience, kindly let me know which you prefer.

Yup, same upper. That combined with the weird grammar in the seller's PM tells me this is a scam. Run far away.
