I shoot lefty, but I've never been hit by my own brass.

Once in a while my M1 sends some brass back against my temple.

Don't ever shoot a Steyr Aug left handed unless it's set up that way. Son's a lefty. He shoots it right handed.

I shoot lefty and I haven't been hit by my own brass. I only found it a problem was when I attended an Apple Seed event. They have you shooting from the prone position. Since I was the only lefty there, I had to get on the far end to keep my foot and leg bumping into others.

I used to think about maybe one day getting a left handed bolt action rifle but that idea has faded as I have learn to adapt in a righty world.

I like to shoot with a magwell grip style, works fine on the AR with brass deflector, noticed that on AKs and PTR-91 brass hits my thumb and I have to move my hand forward.

I get made fun of all the time lol they call me a weirdo . I have never been hit in the face by flying brass but I have shot at a couple of gun clubs and it is awkward on the bench because you have a right handed shooters back right behind your back . Since my AR's are featureless I went with the magpul Miad grip and the left handed Exile machine fin grip my AR's dont get shot by anyone else but me cause of that thumb rest on the left hand .
Old problems are like dry poop, if you let the dry poop sit it doesn't smell but the minute you decide to stir the poop with a stick, the smell comes back. Moral of the story, Don't bring up old problems!

I've had brass hit my right earpro from ARs but that's about it. My Tavor when transitioned to my right shoulder was another story... but that's the nature of that beast. I've had a couple of PCCs that dumped brass into the crook of my right elbow. Changed hand positions to deal with that for the most part.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Honestly very few semi-auto rifles cause problems for me left handed. Only major ones I recall that I make sure to avoid shooting/convert to left handed are bullpup rifles and AR's that lack a brass deflector.

Shot one of those Colt SP1's without the brass deflector and after that I just accepted the fact that if I'm going to shoot an AR it better have a brass deflector after that, since I was pretty much eating brass cases whenever I shot it.

On the flip side I get to thank the makers of the M1 Garand/M1A/Mini-14 and the Kalashnikov for taking us left handers into consideration since all the controls are almost ready made for us in comparison.
