Where have all the Marlins gone?

Hi all,

About a year back I decided to pick up a Marlin 1895 SBL, but we had just bought a house so the decision got pushed back. Now I can't find them anywhere anymore? I guess Remington went under and Ruger bought the Marlin brand now.

Is this good news? I'm afraid I'm a bit ignorant of the market and how the companies operate, I assume the model will become available again, but will it be better or worse made in your opinion?

Can't find one for less than 2k right now which is DOUBLE its original value.

Man, I really wish I would have pulled the trigger on that purchase!

There was a big theft on Nov 3.

I'm cautiously optimistic with Ruger running the show. At least their core business is manufacturing guns and not financial engineering like the previous holding companies. But what worries me is that Ruger is somewhat getting a reputation of having their customers be the final QA testers. Fortunately their warranty program is still top notch but ideally it shouldn't need to be used so often.

I paid $475 for my GBL .45-70 in 2016 and got a $100 rebate. They are now over $1200 on Gunbroker. Marlin is gone, no more guns being made right now. Covid, Socialist takeover of the US, unknowns...the Marlins are gone. That's the answer. You have the used market and that's it.

Here is lesson #1 you learned the hard way: Do not put off a gun purchase for tomorrow.

We have all learned this lesson the hard way, just make sure you learn it. If you really want a Marlin lever, I'd get it now. While it is likely Ruger will make them, it could be years before that happens, and when it does there is no guarantee you'll legally be allowed to buy one. So go back to lesson #1.

Marlin is a very unique situation. I could talk for an hour about it. Frankly Henry is a better firearm.
I own 2 Marlins and a copilot. Really wanted a csbl but May have to go a different direction

I think we’re all pretty certain they’ll do a better job than Remington did!

A few months ago I had an remlin 1894 357 mag in my hands about to buy it and decided to let it go in favor of the future Ruger version.

I have strong suspicion that once the Ruger version is released the remlins will sink in value.

I suspect that the first couple of years of Ruglins might be problematic. But after they figure it all out, they'll be better than Remlins.

I think buying Marlin was a smart move by Ruger. The writing is on the wall that semi-autos will be banned. Buying Marlin puts Ruger in a great position for making revolvers and lever actions. That'll likely be all that we can have after Harris/Biden's first term.

What have we learned class? Never wait on buying guns. You never know when what you want will go out of stock or be made "illegal".
