As long as the gun was not reported stolen at some point you should be fine. The state will only look into it if it comes back as stolen, then they would be able to find out who it was originally sold to but they have no way of tracking how many times it changed hands since then.

FYI, even though everything you are doing is legitimate, don't bother telling all of your story to the FFL. It is complicated and they may get spooked and not want to do the deal, giving you some FUD excuse.
