You'll need a heat gun or possibly a torch to melt the red loctite they use to attach that to the receiver. A very kind fellow Calgunner helped me install mine. When we did this pretty much his entire garage filled with the smoke by the time the red loctite broke loose enough to separate factory tube from receiver.

There are three or four folks that make full length tubes. Some are heavier but less expensive steel and some are, much lighter but pricier titanium. If you don't want to spend a year being ignored and jerked around by the totally non-communicative folks at Carrier Comp there, at least used to be, one other company that makes equally nice, titanium tubes.

Yea i used a heat gun and one of those rubber oven mitts to get mine off. I think benelli uses a whole bottle of red
loctite on those damn mag tubes. Took a lot longer to break the bond than i thought it would. Worth the effort to make it right though.

Must be an m4 thing. For my m2 the retaining nut was hand tight, and I could pop off the spring retainer easily with pliers.

Check out Dave's Metal Works if you're looking for a replacement magazine tube.

Must be. I knew what i was getting into from other people posting similar experiences. It was excessive to say the least.

They're talking about replacing the tube, not just removing end cap and spring retainer...

I was able to remove pretty easily with heat gun and gorilla grip gloves... took quite a bit of torque- but once it budges, its good to go.

They do use some pretty serious thread locker.

For some, looks... for others 922(r) compliance... for many, its both.

Weight (with titanium tube) is a benefit added to both reasons above.

ETA: in anticipation of next question about 922r being impacted - an extension doesn't count as replacement... whole tube does.
