Yes. Benelli mag springs can be stiff. Supposedly, they make them overlong and the owner can cut them down to personal preference.

But before you do any cutting, try jamming 5 shells in, or at least 4 and leave them in the tube a few days to help give them a bit of a set.

Other option is to buy a aftermarket spring from Wolf.

Try birdshot. Shell lengths vary from type to type and different manufacturers.

Shell length vary as mentioned above. Some non-US made shells seem to be longer than domestic brands, especially in 00 buck.
I have some Wolff 00 that are very noticeably longer that]n Winchester or Federal 00.

Just putting and leaving shells in the magazine tube will not "break in" the spring, springs get broken in by compression and expansion, only compression will do little. I'd fill the tube then take the shells out, doing this multiple times will "break in" the spring if that is in fact the issue/solution.

Just like magazine springs from ar or 1911 or any magazine leaving rounds in the magazine and leaving the spring compressed will not wear out the spring but using the magazine regularly which compresses an dc expands the spring will wear them out.

Shotgun mag tube springs will take a set from nothing but storage. The compression and expansion story as it pertains to shotgun mag tube springs is fiction.

Check your spring to make sure it not kinking in the tube. Sometimes the springs kink and then they cannot be compressed fully. Check the follower to make sure the spring fits inside of it and is not pushing on the edges of the follower.

There is some variation in shell sizes. In my m4 I get one less shell when I'm using Federal Law Enforcement Tactical w/Flight Control 9 pellet vs 8 pellet. The 9 pellets are just ever so slightly longer than the 8 pellets and it makes a difference in the m4. This doesn't happen in my 870.

So try some different brands and see if it makes a difference. You could also cut one turn off the mag spring to make a little more room but I have no idea how that will affect reliability. Or you could look around and see if you can find a more compact follower that gives you a little more room...if such a beast exists.

But if your plan is to swap out your mag tube to a 7 rounder like most m4 owners do, it's probably not worth the effort to resolve this. Swap the tubes and then see where things are at.

Really? How is it different pertaining to shotgun tube springs compared to magazine springs? Just curious as I heard that it was relatively the same. Differing metals used it the construction? Or just the length of the spring landing to its "weakness"?
