    Ruger Roster Revolver Question

Gents maybe you can help me make sense of this:

A vendor out of state has a Ruger GP 100 they label Model 1702 that I want to buy; and they note that #1702 is not on our roster. It isn't that I can find.

What is on our roster is GP 141. When I search GP 141 at Ruger and at other vendors its labeled #1702? I showed this to the vendor and they said they still can't ship it to CA.

What am I missing? How can I convince them the 1702 is in fact the GP 141 which IS on the state roster?

Or am I wrong in that?

Example not the vendor I'm trying to use:
Strength, Simplicity and Ruggedness. Ruger® GP100® double-action revolvers are among the most comfortable shooting revolvers. Their rugged, medium-sized frame and

Notice that buds calls it #1702
    1. Compared to what?
    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?

There's probably nothing you can do to convince him. Move on to another seller.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Its not that simple; its a uniquely finished GP not a "stock" retail unit.

Then, he's right. It's not on the roster. To be the model on the roster it has to be exactly as it comes from Ruger. Find an on roster version and have it refinished to your liking.

It might be the vendor not wanting to deal.with CA.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Like I said, he's right it's off roster. You do have one option to get THIS exact gun if you want. It's going to cost you more money though. You will need a "middleman FFL" in another state buy the gun. You can then have them convert it to Single Action Only and send it to your LGS who will transfer it as a SAO Exempt Revolver.

So the modification (just a refinish) keeps an on roster gun from being on the roster - ugh - thanks I'm learning.

Yeah, it's a freaking mess. If a third party company changes the finish it becomes off roster. If Ruger changes the finish it becomes off roster. Though since it's just the finish Ruger "could" pay the listing fee and get it added to the roster.

                  FWIW

Ruger has an explicit list of on roster revolvers online:

As well, the spec sheet for 1702 explicitly states that it is CA legal:

Its on - for right now - they are saying I can by the unfinished GP 141 / 1702 and send it too them for the work they've indicated is available. It looks like I'll be able to score this special one that I've coveted. They weren't anti CA they were just not going to break any rules - I get it.

Have it converted to single action. Either by the seller, or your transfer FFL, or a middleman FFL.

It takes only a few minutes. Convert it back after pickup.

This is an easy one - I'd be DROSing that thing next week if I wanted it. It is a perfect candidate for SAE

I had that exact issue so I gave up and got the stainless competition model. I really just wanted a 6 shot ruger double action revolver in 357... I had an issue with an LGS that didn't want to receive a ruger casull because it had the 20 ywar old grip but has changed in current models. Found a different LGS...

Buds is good at selling to CA, they know what they’re doing. They have a CA section for specific rostered guns, just follow it to keep yourself from making mistakes
