Job boxes like the one pictured above is the best value. Even better, Stronghold metal cabinets. 6 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft. 12 ga steel with 4 shelves that will hold 1000 lbs each. Holes in the feet to bolt it down. Very sturdy industrial units and the shelving makes organizing and finding ammo and other items easy. Not inexpensive but really good cabinets. There are 2 on SoCal Craigslist now for $8-900 each but I have purchased 3 for my shop in excellent condition for $4-500. A each. A safe company recently sold 3 for $400 each. Love these cabinets.

I used to store it under the reloading bench in 30 old 50cal GI ammo cans. Given it's current value I'm thinking of buying a better safe for my ammo than for my guns.

As far as storage for the actual ammunition..I use steel ammo cans, when I go to the range I use Klein zipper closing cloth bags that are usually used for tools or wrenches. They double as empty cases storage when I reload.

I’ve been keeping them in their original packaging, but thinking of opening them to put in containers since I don’t plan on selling. Plus I figure the desiccants are more effective this way.......
I guess most of us do your way. 30/50 Cal ammo can is cheap and they last 20+ years, get couple dozens.

i use their tool box system pieces to haul stuff. i have cases for different stuff and the roller, so i can take what i need.

With the current ammo prices, we can only afford to have one round at home. On even days, I store it, in my bra. On odd days, my husband stores it, in his briefs.

Range trips are a bit embarrassing.

I know what you'll ask next: what caliber? Well, that's a very personal question.

Thank you for all the answers everyone. Feel a lot more comfortable with the way I’m currently storing. With original packaging often can only fit 4-6 boxes per ammo container, so thought crossed my mind if others dumped them out loosely.

Time to buy more ammo containers.
