    Didn't they used to auction off seized guns?
    A lot of agencies used to do auctions, and it's still a permitted from of disposal in the Penal Code.

    But most large agencies stopped doing it many years ago because they feared the negative publicity that would result if one of the auctioned guns were to be used in a serious crime.
