    CTD

Anyone every wonder how they actually stay around? Apparently word of mouth and common sense don't work anymore.

Most of us who've been around long enough know better than to purchase from them (I think I figured this out within a matter of weeks since first coming to Calguns), but I keep seeing these posts that seem to suggest that people are still trying to buy from them. As much universal derision they face, not just here in California and perhaps even more so out of this state, it's a wonder they've managed to stay in business.
Many moons ago, long before the white man roamed the plains, when buffalo were plenty, and CTD actually lived up to their name. I remember buying Camillus survival knives for $8 and those big ol Swiss bayonets for $2.56. MREs were $1.50 (and not expired), military backpacks were $4, and shipping was usually free. Surplus items came from all over the world and made with quality.

              Then, a change happened.

Their catalogs became newer and shiny. They were also much heavier because of all the zeros added to back of their prices.

The new chief had arrived. His name was Greedy Sum'beetch. He believed that his prices should not be CTD, but the quality of what he sold.

"Surplus" as well as everything else came from one place, the land of China.

All joking aside, CTD at one time was f**king awesome and had great stuff to buy. Today, I don't even open their catalog. It goes straight to the trash.

They had a 40 foot wall tightly packed with guns, great surplus from all over, and prices cheaper than smaller local Texas gun stores. In summary not a bad place to shop.

Iirc, the change happened with a change in ownership, no idea when. I wouldn't walk in to piss on their floor now.
Early on (1999ish) I used to see them at all the shows in the DFW area. I guess they are victims of their own success.

It baffles me that people I have seen at the range light off a few hundred rounds of this stuff and barely hit the paper.

I'd have traded my factory inventory round for round if they were just going to do THAT.

Why did I not buy more surplus Trangia and Swiss Volcano stoves when they were $5 a piece
