For a while, the HM2 ( Mach2 ) was really popular in the Ruger 10/22 and clones semi auto rifles...except for one little detail...it loved to have an out of battery firing.

One little speck of unburnt powder or dirt...or anything...and you had a mini hand grenade going off...typically it blew the magazine out of the bottom of the 10/22 and that was it...no injury. But my left handed friends took lots of shrapnel to the face, one pulled 3 pieces of brass out of his cheek and lips...luckily none were blinded.

So one by one, we all got rid of our HM2 barrels for our 10/22's...it was just too high a pressure round for a blowback rimfire that by nature gets crud under the rim during firing.

Magnum Research even made a blowback 10/22 style Magnum rimfire, they recalled them...my buddy got his entire purchase price back from them ...funny thing is...he was one of the left handers...but luckily he didn't get an out of battery fire on that one...I could see real physical damage with that one.

They came out with a delayed bolt mechanism for the magnum later on, because sometimes the pressure was still to high as the extraction process was going on that it blew the case up regardless when it lost it's chamber support...but those early pure blowback HM2 and HMR were dangerous.

Shame, because they shot REALLY good.

I see that the Savage A22 comes in both .17 HMR and HM2, those have the delayed blowback action (kinda chintzy looking, but whatever).

somebody should make a California Special

neck down a .27 nail gun cartridge to hold enough powder to send 40 gr .224 at 2700.

in a rimfire.

That's what 17wsm is, but there are no 40gr 17 caliber loads made.

buds guns have a whole bunch of mach 2 in stock for like $7.99 per 50 rounds I almost brought them thinking they were .17hmr

I have about 15 boxes of ammo for it. No non lead though. Nevr fired it new in box. Pretty rifle with laminated stock and stainless steel.
