I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Thank you for your input sir. I now have a better idea of what to do for future PPTs.

No, I have not. I have never purchased a firearm rare or unique enough to need this.
I am sure every major gun shop has heard the stories created by poor handling of a customers firearm.
Maybe cross post into the FFL forum and ask?

In general, I'll leave anything that fits in the factory case, if not a factory case, I'll usually just leave it in a pistol rug type case. However, I always check with the FFL, sometimes non square cases are a PITA for them to store during the wait.

I've only ever had 1 issue, and it was honestly obvious that I'd have issues and I should have just not bought through that dealer. I used to buy a gun from them every couple weeks, and hadn't in a while, the good employees were all gone, the chuckleheads that should have been gone had multiplied, but I wanted a specific ShotShow special edition Browning and they could get it. They didn't fire it, but they did pull it from the safe to show customers, let customers handle it and apparently had it on display in their showroom over the weekend. Lets just say I had a very unenthusiastic conversation with the owner about it and never set foot in the shop again after that pick-up. They went under shortly thereafter.

I think that's by far the exception, not the rule. I wouldn't stress out too much on you gun, 99.9% of FFLs are honest, and don't have time to fiddle with the guns in their safe during the transfer.

That's a great suggestion. Than you. I'm trying to walk a right rope between safeguarding the firearm and bring respectful to the FFL.

Than you for the great suggestion. I think I will try asking on the FFL forum.

Thank you for your input. I hope you're right sir. Oddly enough, this FFL/gun range had very little patrons. ..which is strange because any range within 70 mile radius of the bay area has a typical wait of 1...1.5 hours to shoot or to buy.

I feel your pain. It's like having a newborn baby and having to wait 10 days to pick up. It's definitely nerve-racking to wait, let alone frustrating if they did that to your precious possession.

I had a similar experience like this years ago. I had purchased an Anschutz Olympic Rifle to work with and hopefully get to Olympic Team Trials.

It had a shiny aluminum stock on it that really showed fingerprints whenever it was handled.

When I started the 10 day wait the employees were aleady gawking at it as they had never seen a rifle like it before.

During the 10 days the rifle had been taken out of the safe on several occasions by the employees to gawk at some more. They didn't even bother to wipe off the fingerprints and other junk they left on it. Luckily it wasn't damaged. It wasn't the most expensive rifle in the world, but it was still a lot of money to me.

I have used home based FFLs about 99% of the time since then especially for my other Olympic rifles that are worth almost as much as a small car.

I leave as little as possible. Gun, cable locks through said gun, case, one ten round mag. Nothing more to walk off.

Why would we want to shoot your gun? We have our own.

Seriously though, nothing happens to it. It sits on a shelf until you come back for the pickup. All we require is a complete firearm with 1 mag for the Safety Demo, if that is done at time of DROS, you can take your mags and everything but the firearm with you.

Thank you for the input. I was just asking since it's off roster and not a common handgun so was wondering if any FFLs test fire to try it out especially if they are also a gun range.

I hope all FFLs are like yourself.

It's not a rare or exciting gun to an FFL. They see off roster literally every day because LE transfers there. It's going to sit on a shelf and be ignored.

I take an extras that may be lost and aren't required.

If it was Herman Goering's PPK or Elvis Presleys S&W I might worry. But honestly, nobody will care about a VP9SK.

The only time I ever had an issue after the 10 day wait was with a run of the mill Smith 69. I picked it up and the shroud had (I'm not exaggerating here) a full 1/4" of play side to side and the tab was severely deformed. It was a Davidson's and I can't believe I would have missed it on initial inspection, but I have no idea how the shop could have screwed it up either. Anyway, Smith replaced it with a perfect one with no issue. Now I take pictures.

Perhaps not. But judging by the FFL employees' reactions, it's not a common model at least at their facility.

                              Thank you for your input.

                                Kudos to S&W's warranty policy.

Taking a photo is a great idea. Just wasn't sure if that was offensive or frowned upon.

                                Thank you.
