I bought a Gamo Varmint .177 break barrel for around $100 and I like it a lot. Super accurate with Gamo Match pellets. I think your granddaughter might have trouble with the 30lb break action though..

That’s exactly what I was going to say. I have 5 break action pellet guns and my 11 year old can’t operate any of them without me doing the loading. Although maybe that’s a good thing - an extra safety measure of sorts (disclaimer for the Karens: I am NOT suggesting that a heavy action is a reliable form of safety)
        my Benitez goes to 11

          DO NOT

BUY AN 8 YR OLD GIRL A PUMP GUN!

Even Daisy lever actions can be challenging for small kids to cock.

My 8 yr old has a daisy buck 105. Essentially same action as red ryder but in a smaller package. Lop is ~11in and fits her well.

Many good suggestions but I wouldn't consider a break barrel for an 8 year old, The claims of a $100 break barrel being accurate are extremely hard to believe, but even if true cocking would be an issue. The strength required and the pinch hazard potential would be a no go for me.

Love my Crosman 1377 .177 pistol, but pumping it up, but at 2 pounds holding it steady might be difficult for an 8 year old.

Rifle would be better. Not CO2.
