No thanks. Cleaning 10 barrels is a bit too much.

That is the studly-est Gattalin gun made. And, you do not have to crank a handle to shoot it.

Agreed. "Old Painless" for me. It will make you a GD sexual Tyrannosaurus!

If I legally could do it I would hands down make one that was electric. I would put a 12 volt motor on it. Being I cannot do that legally it will be hand cranked.

I expect this to take a few years.

I am going with the cap and ball chambers for legal reasons and so I do not have to mess with feed ramps and extractors. There are far fewer moving parts with the 1862 design. Also, I only have a lathe in my shop. I am trying to do it without needing a mill. If I do need one I will go the my friend's shop to make a specific part.

Old style because I like polishing brass.

if you are making it yourself I wouldn't bother trying to copy the old style, and I wouldn't hide the gears and mechanisms. Just make it work! People (including myself) like seeing how things work. If it is staying cap and ball, that means one rotation of the barrels and it's empty? Still would be a neat project.

I am copying the concept of the old style and adapting it for the parts I have available. For example, someone scrapped an old 30" planer and I salvaged gears from it along with something I will use as a crank. I do like seeing how things work as well. I am not going to be using brass on this one. It will all be steel and maybe some copper since I have some copper sheeting around. I will probably color case harden a lot of the exposed steel.

No it reloads. It uses a bunch of cap and ball cylinders kind of like on a cap and ball revolver that fall out at the bottom and a new one falls in at the top.

Well... If I can't have this one...

...not to mention having to hand crank it... Then I'd rather have one which looked/functioned like the original. Except, I'm not sure I'd look like this...
